Money into overseas account as income OK for marriage visa?

Featured Replies

Hi

If i receive 40,000 baht from a family member into my UK bank account every month can I use this proof (internet banking printout) to show to my embassy to say I have the required income for marriage visa? Or do i need to then show this money being bank/swift transferred to Thailand? I usually just get money from ATM

Thanks

Income letter only applies to income - not to any transfers or having in Thailand. But Embassy may require supporting documents too account for the deposits (don't know what they would require to issue letter).

The embassy will accept bank account in the UK with funds coming into the account. But what they will have you do now is a statutory declaration since you are not getting a pension nor applying for an extension based upon retirement.

Some immigration offices will want back up proof to the embassy documents. Some will accept a UK account that show ATM withdrawals or even ATM slips. Others are wanting a Thai bank book.

To support your application if you have an accountant in UK , a letter from them confirming your monthly income & certified by your Embassy would be best option.

Although, as said by ubonjoe & lopbur13,if only use bank protest or ATM slips, may or may not be a prob

I use letter/ stat dec for retirement Visa & not had a problem.

You will be needing supporting documents to prove it. A letter confirming your income from your embassy will surely help.

That's the big problem here with IOs Joe, I know I go on about it, and it's not my country, But why can't the government set the rules, and all the IO's go by them? It's really a lottery for us expats, some of us are allowed to do this, and some of us are not, but I know TiT.

I believe proofs of income are valid for three years so they need to be worded to not restrict them to a year.

A proof of income is not valid for 3 years.

Income letters from an embassy are only valid for 6 months.

It may depend on which nationality you are. My embassy looked at the income statement and said Ok to apply for marriage visa, but getting Thai Immigrations to grant that visa is an entirely different issue. Your income is going to have to be deposited into a Thai bank account and you might have to show $400 K income in your Thai bank account as well. That has been my experience the past 7 years when getting my Marriage visa renewed. The 40,000 monthly was not enough. I had to have the 400,000 in my Thai bank account for two months before applying for the visa. Good luck

Bigfarang1948, at what immigration office are you getting your marriage extensions?

The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place
