Entering Thailand with <6 Months validity on passport with Tourist Visa Exemption

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have Tourist Visa Exemption to Thailand but my passport expires on 29 Jun 2015.

I am intending to make a trip from 08 Jan 2015 - 12 Jan 2015.

Does anyone know if this is allowed?

Thanks in advance.

If you plan to enter Thailand via a flight from overseas, you may want to consult with the airline to see if they will even allow you to board. Typically airlines require that you have a passport that is good for 6 months or more. You just might be able to squeak by... but I would still recommend checking.

"To enter Thailand, a passport valid for six months is required by all nationals referred to in the chart above." The chart in question lists Australia, Great Britain, USA, Canada, and other EU countries. The airline may be the least of your problems.

To enter Thailand you must have enough days in your Passport to cover your length of stay.

So you will be ok.

You can check here:

For most nationalities that qualify for visa exempt entries the passport only has to be valid the intended length of stay.

Enter info here and to get requirements from IATA data base: http://www.staralliance.com/en/services/visa-and-health/

Ok guys i've gotten official word from Thailand Embassy. Even for my case, I can't enter Thailand because for the duration that you will be in Thailand, the passport has to be >6 months validity.

Hope this clarifies and hope this helps others as well. Even though IATA website states that I will have no problem, I think the embassy's rules will supercede the recommendations by IATA.

The IATA database info is correct. This has been discussed before and people have entered with less than six months remaining on their passport after being advised about it.

The embassy only gave you the info for getting a visa which does require 6 months validity.

Your embassy gave you incorrect information.
