Featured Replies

Recvd this 64 MB dowload security update from Microsoft today, dated 9 September 2014 relating to an earlier update in December 2013.

"Description of the security update for the .NET Framework 4.5 and the .NET Framework 4.5.1 on Windows 7 Service Pack 1, Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1, Windows Vista Service Pack 2, and Windows Server 2008 Service Pack 2: December 10, 2013

Notice:

September 9, 2014: This security update has been re-released and contains updated files. We recommend that you apply this updated security update."

If security is such a priority for them, why send it three months late?

And is this dowloading-rebooting really worth all the time and trouble?

You may not have required it until now. If you installed or updated some other application it may have become relavent to you at this point. Secure updates are a necassary evil - if you don't like rebooting run linux - it is rare you would have to re boot for any updates or installations of applications, but still it is at times also required.

How frequently do you have the settings set for checking updates? Maybe they're set to check every 90 days.

Downloading updates and re-booting can take up to 15 minutes. Have a cup of tea and let it do it's job.

15 minutes? The last three patch tuesdays have delivered 1-1.8 Gb of patches on 8.1/Office 2013.
