Do certificate of residency transfer to new passport

Featured Replies

As above. getting my cert of Res in my current passport as need cert to renew drivers license next month.

Than in april am getting a new passport.when the US embassy outreach visits Phuket

will the certificate transfer to the new passport?

Also am getting my Notarized letter of income ( us) for old passport number but at the same time am applying for new passport>

will they accept the letter of income to place my new 1 year ret extension in new passport?

Thanks

PHUKET

A certificate of residence is not done in a passport. It is in the form of a letter and is only valid for 30 days.

I cannot answer you question about the income affidavit. That will depend entirely upon the immigration officer doing your application.

My opinion you could have a problem on your letter of income as your passport number is indeed noted on it. If you apply for a new extension and immigration catches this they probably will say no. Your letter needs to show your new passport number. Also be advised that more and more immigration offices are requiring backup proof of funds in a Thai bank to live on when you present a letter of income from your embassy.

I realize the actual certificate is a piece of paper, but i thought they put a piece of paper in ur passport when u register ur address at immigration?

and the cert for dl is, i know, valid for 30 days

I know all about back up info for letter from us embassy which is REQUIRED here in Phuket

reason for new passport is am running out of pages so i can get a 28 page extra set for $82

or a 56 page new passport for $110 ( doesn't matter i have 2 years left as a we as US citizens can renew our passports at any time.)

Phuket Immi now gives you two forms stapled in your passport:

1. acknowledging your 90 day notification of address and date to renew

2. acknowledging you and your landlord have registered your address of residence.

As usual, a redundant process but this is Phuket Immi - TIT>

As others have said, the 90 day report goes into the passport with an expiry date on it.

The 'certificate of residence' is just a letter signed by immigration.

2. The report of a foreigners presence (TM30 form) is the responsibility of the home owner not the foreigner. The receipt for the report should go to the homeowner not be stapled in the foreigners passport.

Again Phuket immigration operating outside the rules.

Like PhuketRichard I have been through this process in Phuket in recent times. Things may be different elsewhere.

I downloaded a TM28 and a TM30, had both filled out with the requisite ID etc and they were rejected.

Instead I and my partner (landowner) had to fill out similar forms, not numbered, printed on old paysheets (recycled paper).

Then a printout similar but different to the 90 day receipt was stapled to the front pages of my passport certifying I had notified my address.

N.B. two printout receipts.

IMHO the new Col in Phuket is batsh*t crazy and a law unto himself.

Maybe pyzzed off about the slow return of his "promotion investment" these days.
