Depends what you want, and how much you want to spend. Patong is the biggest place, craziest, most stuff happening. Rawai and Nai Harn are a bit quieter, but then again I left 2 1/2 years ago and they where developing quickly so might have changed a lot in that time. Kata was sort of in between them in that it was developed but not as much as Patong.

If you want to relax I would say stay in Rawai or Nai Harn, hire a bike, go explore the island, see what you like and what you don't. If you are going for a couple of weeks only book a few nights then see which area you like and find a hotel there. There are plenty of places to stay, you won't miss out that is for sure.

There are too many places around the island for what you want to really be able to give you direct answer.

If you don't want to go barhopping to hundreds of bars and don't want to go for ocean swims all the time and don't care about extreme night life, then I would say, Rawai is perfect.

Have bars, restaurants, Thai and farang food, beautiful seaview with some bars opposite the beach, crazy traffic after 5pm until aprox. 7.30pm, on the beach road, everyone visiting Phrom Thep cape are going back and only two roads out of there, one is the beach road.

A lot of guest houses or hotels along the beach and inside, also up from Rawai to Chalong on Wiset Rd. there's a few hotels and guest houses.

Difficult to name just one.

Kata is also a nice village to stay, not as stressed out as Patong, easy to find hotels and guesthouses. middle of Karon I would avoid as it's more of family village, on the north end of Karon there are a couple of blocks with bars and restaurants doing late nights.

Patongs crazy nightlife and noise comes mostly from Bangla road and Nanai Rd.

I think Patong is the only one that has everything the others have, but it doesn't mean I like Patong better.

The cost for hotels/guesthouses is impossible to say exactly, but you should be able to get a room between 700THB up to 3500 THB a night. 18 Euro to 89 Euro.

Why on earth would you stay in go go and continue to buy her overpriced lady drinks after you paid the bar fine? I would advise the OP to take her somewhere more fun for her, a night club maybe if he doesn't go straight to his room

single male coming to phuket for the first time ...... wow .... amazing !!

Malleebull, mate ! My first trip to LOS, I was the very wrong side of 50, like much closer to 60. Hadn't left home shores in over 20 years, so not what you'd call a jet-setter.

Arrived in Pattaya about 2am & being somewhat rooted, I decided to hit the sack, alone, for the first night, or what remained of it. Oh, I traveled solo.

Next morning took a 3 or so hour walk to get my bearings. Found out what a soapie was by about midday. Somehow found my way on the dance stage at Tahitian Queen, being force fed tequila shots early evening. They really weren't forcing me too hard... with the shots, that is. By about 10pm I was madly, deeply in lust. By 10:15 I was back in my "quiet" hotel room, & definitely NOT alone.

So, it sure ain't rocket surgery. Be polite. mind ya manners, smile & it'll all fall into place. If you're really looking for a quiet time.... I'm not too sure what advice to offer.

Yep, head to Patong and stay at any resort there that allows ladys to stay with you and you'll have a ball. Sit on the beach with a mint condition little las for a week or 2. Even rent a jet ski and take her for trip round the bay. Happy days!
