Is Still Singapore a Non-Recommended Place for a Tourist Visa?

Featured Replies

Hi guys!

I stay mainly in Asia the whole year, most of the time in Thailand, but not all the time. Last year, for example, I've been in Malaysia, Vietnam, Myanmar, South Korea and Lao, apart of staying one month in Spain. I never had problems applying for Tourist Visas or the 30-day exemption at the airport, as I don't stay that long in the Kingdom and don't work in here. My funds come from Spain.

The next two weeks I'll be in Malaysia and Singapore. Is more convenient to me to apply for another Tourist Visa in Singapore than KL, but I've been reading that they are picky and sometimes can get refused. But that's not my concern.

My problem is that I don't have a flight ticket out from Singapore, as my idea is to arrive there, stay one week, and then cross by land to Malaysia. I have a ticket to go out from Kuala Lumpur, of course, but not from Singapore.

Do anyone was on the same situation? Are they accepting tickets to go back to Thailand from neighbouring countries?

If not, I'll apply in Kuala Lumpur, but changes my plans, as I planned to stay around the country, not much time at the capital.

Thanks for your help!!

There have been reports of them refusing applications if you have been here just before you apply.

If you had some proof that you will be leaving overland they might accept that instead of a ticket out.

I'll try with a bus ticket to Malaysia and the flight confirmation from KL to Bangkok. I'll update next week if everything goes fine :)

I breezed in and out of Singapore embassy yesterday after requesting a Non B the day before. While you are not seeking the same visa and I did have flights out of Singapore and Thailand documented, I can tell you that the staff was nothing but helpful and accommodating on both days. Furthermore, I saw only happy customers on pickup day.

With my experience concerning rejecting tourist visa application in Singapore, the embassy is very strict on the timeline when the visa is applied. Meaning that if your last tourist visa application was less than 6 month, your new visa application will be rejected. In Singapore they apply the law: you can apply for a visa every 6 month. Not less. Hope that helps.

I think I'll pass and spend two or three days in Kuala Lumpur. I checked my passport, and I stayed last year in Thailand almost nine months. I only applied for two tourist visas and only once I extended for 30 days, but I came a lot on 30-days exemption. So probably Singapore will deny my visa...
