Sitting in your ivory towers you must feel very self-satisfied. Regardless of Thailand's tourist industry - the government and police should be transparent. Rather than worring about how arrests affect the tourist industry, why not start changing the actual environemnt where it is more tourist friendly rather than worrying about the truth being told. If the Thailand tourism industry is so important - use the energy to make it safe and attractive in reality - don't just worry about the media representation. All the checks and balances are thrown out the window! How many tourists are victims of corruption? No Johnnie is a falang who has all the wrong priorities, would rather a bonny bouncing tourist industry than dealing with criminality. Probably a one time screamer or a lounge chair tourist. I met one such officer recently, not British, but from another European police force and asked him what it was liking working with the RTP, anticipating a litany of horror stories. His reply was that they get everything they want from the RTP and that it works well. He said they of course pay the RTP for their support but generally they tell the RTP who they want and the RTP do the rest for them. I was quite impressed but I am fairly naive about these matters!
