Type F visa, re-entry permit needed?

Featured Replies

Hi all, after years of lurking in this forum i now am in need of some advice. My wife is in Thailand on a type F visa valid for one year issued on october 6th, 2014. Does anone know if she will need a re-entry permit if she wants to leave LOS for some days to go abroad? It seems there is not a lot of information available on this type of visa, but i hope someone here can shed some light on it.

How many entries are shown on the visa itself?

If unsure, post a photo of the visa (blank any personal information).

"I don't want to know why you can't. I want to know how you can!"

It depends on if it is a single or multiple entry visa. If it says multiple she can leave and re-enter the country without a re-entry permit during the time the visa is valid.

To be clear: a visa is issued by a Thai consulate abroad.

In fact, she needs to leave the country every 90 days, unless she is on an extension of stay. in case she is on an extension of stay from immirgaiton inThailand she will need a re-entry permit.

That must be the fastest service ever!!!! :-)

I think it is a multiple entry visa, as it says: "No. of entry: M". The visa was issued by the Thai embassy in the Netherlands. Thanks again for the very fast answers!

Yes, that is a multiple entry. Se leaves every 90 days and doesn't need a re-entry permit to return.

By leaveing and re-entering just before the visa expires she can get almost 15 months out of the visa.

You need to look at the entry/permitted to stay stamp in her passport. She needs to leave the country by the permitted to stay date or she will be on an overstay.

The visa is valid for a year but she only gets 90 day entries and must leave the country at end of each of those entries.

I am not an expert, but I believe she does not need a re-entry permit as long as her visa is still valid for the period of her trip.

If the visa were to expire while she was out of the country however, she would not be able to get back into Thailand on that visa.

But, more importantly, if you are here as her dependent on an extension as her dependent, then you need to realize that as her dependent you will need a re-entry permit to travel with her.

In other words, her visa, and your extension as her dependent are two separate matters.

So even if she can use her valid multi entry visa, you, as her dependent will almost surely need a re-entry permit to travel with her.

Check with immigration to be sure, and get a re-entry permit if needed.
