Yala seeks religious leaders’ cooperation to address the issue of violence

YALA, 9 Jan 2015 (NNT) - Yala Province yesterday held an activity that brought together local Islamic and Buddhist leaders, in its bids to achieve peace.

The meeting, which was being held at the Office of Local Administration in Na-tham Sub-district in Muang Yala, was also attended by government employees, military & police officers, community leaders and locals.

Peace building dominated the discussion yesterday. Muslims and Buddhists brainstormed ideas together to seek ways to ease the tension in the area without discrimination against one another, paving ways to peace talks and ultimately eliminate the southern violence.

The talks are one of the many efforts of the Government to address the ongoing violence in the South.

Comedian Cherry found dead

BANGKOK: -- A well-known comedian with ghost-like face, Cherry Na Phee, was found dead at his rented apartment room in Kannayao district of Bangkok last night.

The 42-year-old comedian whose real name was Panthep Ngamchit, lied dead on the floor of the room at the four-storey apartment at Soi Raminthra 46, wearing only white sports shorts.

Khok Kram police said a plastic bottle containing a local rice whiskey, mixed with a red-coloured soft drink, was found near his body.

He was last seen by a maid at the apartment about 5 pm on Wednesday.

A friend came to his room today to prepare for a comedy show but Cherry didn’t answer his call. He knocked at the door several times but there was no response.

He then broke into the room to find Cherry lying on the floor, dead.

He then alerted security guards and police.

Relatives told police that the comedian was a heavy drinker.

His body was sent to the Police General Hospital for autopsy to establish the cause of death.
