DCD is confident in its ability to monitor disease situation in Kanjanaburi Province

KANJANABURI, 10 Jan 2015, (NNT) - The Department of Disease Control is confident in the nation’s ability to control diseases along the border of Sangkalaburi, Kanjanaburi Province, preparing for the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC), which arrives this year.

According to Director-General of the department, Dr. Sopon Mekathon, who, together with his Deputy, Dr. Opas Karnkawinpong, yesterday visited the district to inspect local officials’ work on disease prevention in the area.

The director-general spent the first few hours in a briefing and Q&A session with the media before taking a trip to a disease control checkpoint where he inspected officials’ disease inspection and screening process on all incoming and outgoing travelers.

According to him, when the AEC officially kicks off later this year, more people and goods will be moving through this and other disease control checkpoints across the nation, possibly causing contagious diseases from incoming foreign labors to spread.

Dr. Sopon said the department is ready to take on the task of preventing such event happening, adding that Thailand has been working on the issue in cooperation with her neighboring countries.
