EmmC chip replacement

Featured Replies

My Galaxy Note shows symptoms that indicat my EmmC chip need to be replaced. The phone is almost 3 years old and out of warranty.

Any idea what the cost would be for such a replacement? Can only Samsung perform this or is it possible to be done by phone repair shops in Pattaya or Bangkok.

Is it worth to have it replaced on a 3 year old phone?

I'm aware of that app, and yes i have an affected chip, but there are kernels which have the patch integrated. So my phone isn't prone to the sudden death anymore.

The problem with my phone is that the chip in itself is having a problem. If I read on the web it cost about 150 - 200$ to replace the chip by a third party company, which the phone isn't worth of course. I assume that a third party company is cheaper as when the replacement was performed at Samsung.

Those quotes are also from a country where they charge you easily 30$ to simply look at your phone, which isn't the case in Thailand yet.

So I try to find out if there are third party companies in Thailand that can do the job, where to find them, and what it would cost.

Again don't know if you have seen it : http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/EMMC_Bugs

I have read that thread before, and according to the app I have the VYL00M chip revision 0x19, which the thread indicates has the device brick impact, not the data corruption.

I have the TRIM installed, I can only assume it is installed correctly as it doesn't give any confirmation upon install.

Other than that, I'm not sure if the TRIM patch solves the screen error, and even if that is possible to resolve with a patch

No idea. I moved away from Samsung phones a few years ago.. and I'm thinking to never go back!
