2015 - Any 'recent' advice for tourist visa runs from Chiang Mai? We need to do run in early Feb.

Featured Replies

Hi there, Our double entry tourist visas obtained from Australia have finished ... got 30 day extension on both...now due for visa run first week in February. Looking for some recent information as to whether Vientianne or KL better. I heard some talk of them clamping down on multiple visa runs but then seemed to calm down again. Vientianne sounds lovely but more stuffing around as such. Any updated advice?

The was no crackdown on visa runs to get a visa, Only those for visa exempt entries have been restricted.

In Vientiane you can get a 2 entry tourist visa. KL is only a single entry.

You fly from Chiang Mai to Udon Thani and then from there it is less than an hour by van to the bridge in Nong Kai.

Nok Air has a fly/ride service to Vientiane via Udon.

Thank you for that info. I actually wanted to see Vientianne so will check out the Nok Air fly drive. Thanks again. One more question...the $35 for visa fro Vientianne entry...has to be paid in US dollars?

Since you are from Oz your visa will only cost $30 US or you can pay 1500 baht for it.

I felt sorry for guys doing Visa Runs yesterday. Came to Hua Hin for a weeks's break in a minibus. Won't be going back the same way....had no leg room at all, couldn't even put my feet under the seat in front, partitioned off. Foot to the floor all the way and it was so bumpy even the driver couldn't get a sleep.
