Govt urged to find culprits who burnt flag at Chuan house

BANGKOK: -- The Democrat Party has urged the government to find and take action against those who burnt the national flag hanging at the residence of the party's chief advisor Chuan Leekpai.

"This is an unusual case because it happened at the residence of Khun Chuan who was a former prime minister. Burning a national flag also sends negative signals," Democrat's deputy spokesman Sathit Pitutecha said on Wednesday.

Chuan, who is visiting families of those who were killed in the southern violence, said on Tuesday that the national flag at his residence in Soi Mor Leng in Bangkok was mysteriously burned recently.

The incident was probably linked to the violence in the southern provinces.

"This is not the first time that these kind of attacks have occurred. There have been bomb attacks at the Bangkok residence of Privy Councillor Gen Prem Tinsulanonda as well as the Democrat and Thai Rak Thai parties," he said, adding that the government, particularly National Intelligence Agency, should pay more attention to finding culprits before these incidents escalated.
