KOH SAMUI: -- It has been reported that Mr. Suphot Champchearn, the son of the village headman in Koh Phangan shot Pol.Sub.Lt. Suriyan Ranjuan, an inquiry officer at Koh Pha Ngan Police Station while Pol.Sub.Lt. Suriyan was arresting the him for carrying weapons in a public place.

Pol.Sub.Lt. Suriysn was severely injured by the gunshot. After the incident, which happened on the night of January 13, Mr. Suphot absconded into the mountains.

In the afternoon of January 14, Koh Pha Ngan police led by Pol.Col. Phrachom Ruangthong, the Commander of Pha Ngan Provincial Police, surrounded the area around a house in a coconut farm after the police found out that Mr. Suphot had been hiding there since the incident.

After the place was surrounded, the police tried convincing Mr. Suphot to surrender, and eventually succeeded. He was taken into custody at the Koh Pha Ngan Police Station for prosecution. The injured policeman is now in hospital where his injuries are being treated.

Don't worry son.......you will be out in a couple of hours.

The Mafia will take care of it all.

As about you, you will grow up and succeed daddy, being the head of the crime squad in Koh Phangan.

And the story carries on and on and on......we will never see the end of it.

Are we General?

Are you doing anything about that?

Love the way "the law" is respected here so much ... almost makes you think (if you have the right connections) you can get away with anything.

Just wonder if this is the same village headman in Koh Phangan that was mentioned in the news in relation to the sad case where two young British tourists where murdered last year, and a son of village headman in Koh Phangan were in question...?

Certainly there will be a sharp twist in the ongoing investigation, since Thais would never do such a thing and some, preferrably Burmese, patsy will take the fall. Or perhaps the injured officer (after receiving a couple of millions into his bank account) will state that the mafia son fell over the shoe laces of his flip flops, the gun went off accidentally, and that all charges will be dropped...

"The Son of the Village Headman Surrendered After Shooting a Policeman"

What a misleading headline...technically he surrendered after shooting the policeman but it is highly unlikely he would surrender before hand???

How about "Head man's son surrenders whilst cornered by heavily armed fellow officers of the policeman he had just shot" that doesn't sound so much like he surrendered out of his feelings of guilt and remorse more like he surrendered because he was about to be blown to pieces !!!

hard to believe its 2015, yet here in ''Thailand'' this happens on a daily basis.

Hiding in the Forest ??? grow up and man up to your responsibilities...

same families on both islands, the people of koh tao originally from koh phangan

Gee´ś

Even the hardest of crims would at least think twice before shooting a copper.... unless face was involved inThailand

....barbarism and power do not mix......

...this tribal mentality of village headman seems rather primitive....

...will anything ever be done about it....

Not as long as the right palms keep getting greased, including according to rumours a certain generals grand mother...

This is how village headman are groomed on the islands.

I doubt if a headman of a village on Koh Pengan is that wealthy or has any influence. I am always surprised that the BIB don't protect their own and take things into their own hands, the fact that Chalerms son is still alive amazes me, a quick shot to the head on a dark night by an unknown police officer should have been on the cards by rights.

His defense will be; The cop drew first......I was only defending myself.

"Sheriff Suriyan always hated me,

For what, I don't know...."

Now now now... Let us not exagerate...

Police searched for him, located him, and convinced him to surrender....

Cannot get away with it...

He has to pay his 500 baht fine....

I think you should 'read-up' on the Koh Tao murders investigation, which all of a sudden took a complete U-Turn when the 'headman' became involved!

This sounds rather stupid I admit. What is a village 'headman'. Is it an official local government position or just some tough guy family that have emerged over the years and put the fear of God into the locals?.

I ought to know after 7 years here, but I've never lived in a village. Ta vm.

Just send off his DNA for testing and it should come back to say hes innocent...it seems to work for the other henchmen....err, headmen

What is this country coming to...when the Son of the Village Headman...can not shoot a policeman with impunity...don't the police know who he is?

Noticed loads of people feel much more comfortable hiding behind computer screens and commenting

Yet mentioned on f book and only 1 comment

Suppose at lease people can be honest here

Village head man used to be voted in

Knows the area and provides security for the local area that he has won the election in

Also is needed to sign things such as if someone wants to put a speed bump in the road, act as a character whiteness and more

In the Amper you have the mayor who is in charge of the tessabaan and the nai Amper who is in charge of the security and other things in the Amper

It's complicated

This is why I try to stay out of Thai politics because Thai people are hard to work out their politics is even harder

Allot of Us judge Thailand by our own standards and political systems but most of us ( myself included ) do not know how there system works

Might be completely normal for Thai people as for us we have to adapt and accept or move on

Koh Tau is not the same as Koh Pengan, last time i was there it was a dead and alive hole

I don't believe this could everyone stop getting shot !
