I am considering purchasing some medical insurance from AIA. I know this isn't the best place but I'm helping a friend who is starting out as a broker.

While the summary of benefits is in English the application form I have to sign is only in Thai as is the actual contract with all the fine print. I've told them this is not going to attract many fallang customers but it appears neither document is available in English. Has anyone had experience of this?

Another question I have is that, as a "US Person" under FATCA regulations I have to provide them with my tax ID number which is my Social Security number. I'm uneasy about doing this. I'm sure AIA is a reputable company but this is Thailand. Should I be concerned about giving out my SS number?

Thanks

Do you have to give your SS# because there is a life insurance component to the policy? Anyhow giving your SS# out anyplace is risky. The risk in Thailand is the same as in the USA.

We can't speak for any other insurer but Pacific Cross Health Insurance has all policy documents, forms, and brochures in both English and Thai (note - it is the Thai version that is considered the 'master' by the regulator). These can be viewed on the following link - Health Insurance Downloads. We do not require a Social Security or taxation number and the only form of identification required is either a Thai National ID card copy or Passport copy and that is to ensure we record the correct name and spelling to expedite claims processing.
