went to the AIS shop in central world to get a new sim card only to be told 'in thailand you have to show your passport and register before you can buy a sim card'

hummm... i wasnt sure about this so popped next door to the DTAC shop where i purchased a sim card with no problem.

when i change money some banks refuse to change unless i show my passport others change with no passport.

so either ID is not required some banks/mobile phone companies dont know the law in their own country and are losing business due to their ignorance

or some banks and mobile phone companies are openly flouting the law...

any reason for such dependencies apart from TIT!

I wouldn't consider requiring some form of identification, flouting the law, when exchanging money.

Just sayin..... Cheers..... Mal.
