Nida Poll says Yingluck will be punished



BANGKOK: -- Ex-premier Yingluck Shinawatra will be impeached by the National Legislative Assembly (NLA) for dereliction of duty over her rice-pledging scheme that incurred damages of almost 700 billion baht to the state, the latest poll conducted by the National Institute of Development Administration (NIDA) said.

In a release of the survey by NIDA, or Nida Poll, it said the majority of NLA members will vote to impeach her.

The poll was conducted from January 20-21 and 1,250 people throughout the country were interviewed.

The result showed that 60.48% of people interviewed thought that most of the NLA members will impeach her while only 11.60% said the majority of NLA members will vote against it.

However 17.04% believed that most will either abstain from voting or not show up for tomorrow’s impeachment vote.

Nida Poll also revealed that 45.44% of people asked believed the impeachment will not lead to disturbances, but 41.20% expected minor dusorderly incidents which will be kept under control by security officials.

The impeachment motion requires 132 votes or three-fifths of the 220 NLA members to make the impeachment valid.

You would be best to ask Thaksin and Yingluck that question. They are the ones who created this fiasco, and in doing so sealed Yingluck's fate.

Not at all. The poll wasn't whether she was guilty or not, which besides being blindingly obvious, is the job of the NLA to decide. The poll was about whether she would be judged guilty even with the likely prospect of violence from her supporters, should her brother decide to fund it.

The current Administration need to tread softly softly , regardless of opinions , there is big time resentment in peasant territory, if they want reconciliation then they are going about it the wrong way , the problem being that even if you tried Yingluck in twenty years time, hate would still be a deciding factor in the Thai community, whatever the outcome the Thai Junta administration must carry the burden of responsibility, one wonders if they are mature enough.

There should not be abstentions allowed. Any NLA member who abstains is failing to do their duty and should be replaced by someone who has an interest in pushing this country forward.

Normally abstentions are only tolerated for reasons of personal ethics and morality. This case affects neither, and would be just for personal protection from future negative impacts on career prospects..... If you put your political career before the rule of law, you should play no part in politics, because you are supposed to be working for the country and the people..... not yourself.

It is about time someone took action against her. I doubt if previous Governments would.....but of course they were unbiased ??

She has been getting away with insider trading on shares and non payment of taxes on share dealings for years. She is not the "Miss Goody Goody" that people may think

NIDA have a remarkably high opinion about the correctness of the average Thai citizens perceptions on matters like this. They endlessly present results of these surveys as if they were reaped from the fountains of truth and wisdom, given to 2 decimal points as evidence of their precision.

How should an average citizen know how a member of the NLA will vote? Do they expect the participants to have close relations with members? How many participants actually read the whole question before ticking one of the boxes provided?

It seems to me to be a completely worthless endeavor.
