BTS power disruption strands thousands during rush hours

BANGKOK: -- Thousands of commuters were stranded at BTS stations after power supply failure on its line from Silom to Bang Wa stations. The incident happened at 08.25 am.

BTS said on its Twitter @BTS_SkyTrain the power disruption happened at its supply line, thus discouraging its rail service from Taksin to Bang Wa stations.

But it said service remains available only from the National Stadium to Surasak station and vise versa.

The power disruption stranded thousands of commuters packing on the BTS stations at Wong Wien Yai and Bang Wa.

Latest update on its Twitter said the power failure has been resolved at 08.55 am, and train service is back to normal.

During the power supply breakdown, hundreds of commuters on the trains had to open the door to allow air flow as they were sweating after the onboard air conditioning system also didn’t work.

I sympathize with the commuters.

I was stranded in a train in the London underground for half an hour, some years ago, because of power failure, on a hot summers day and I thought I was going to die.

But these things happen...........
