A train cut off part of the right arm and a leg of a 30-year-old man who had fallen asleep on the tracks in Sihanoukville on Saturday, according to local police.

Unable to stop in time, the train cruised over sleeping victim Si Den’s arms and legs, though it did not kill him.

Den, a fisherman in Sihanoukville, had been drinking at a bar nearby the railroad tracks, according to Lem Sorn, a police officer at the Lek 1 commune police station. About 30 minutes after Den paid his bill at the bar and left on foot, screams were heard at the same time as the train was passing.

Den was found unconscious but alive.

“The authorities called the ambulance to take the victim to Chomka Chek Referral Hospital for treatment,” Lem said.

Den is now awake, but will retain permanent injuries from the accident, said Prom Pov, director of the Preah Sihanouk provincial traffic office.

Last year, at least three people were run over by trains in Cambodia. In November, one man lost a foot and another lost his hands in a similar train accident in Kampot province’s Teuk Chhou district. Both men in Kampot were also sleeping on the tracks while intoxicated at the time of the collision.
