Low-income earners will be able to buy cooking gas at old price after raise

BANGKOK, 27 Jan 2015, (NNT) - The Ministry of Energy is set to implement measures to alleviate the effects of rising cooking gas price on low-income earners in February.

Twarath Sutabutr, deputy permanent secretary of the Ministry of Energy, said on Monday that the revamp of the cooking gas price structure will be implemented in February. Cooking gas prices for the household and transport sectors will be raised to reflect the market price. Mr. Twarath indicated that as part of assistance measures, the government will allow households that use under 90 units of electricity per month to purchase cooking gas at the old price. A limit of 18 kilograms per 3 months will be imposed. Hawkers, food vendors and very small eateries will be allowed to buy 150 kilograms, or 10 tanks, of gas per month.

To be able to make gas purchases under the scheme, those eligible must register at the provincial Energy Ministry office or the Energy Service Center in Bangkok.

19 hurt, two seriously, in pickup collision

PATHUM THANI: -- A pickup carrying students to school crashed into another pickup in Pathum Thani's Nong Sua district on Tuesday morning injuring 19, most of them students.

Two people were badly hurt in the accident, thought to have been caused by thick fog in the area.

Initial police investigation indicated that the company pickup had pulled into the outer lane to overtake when it slammed into the student vehicle.
