Bangkok to be branded ‘Harmony of Life’

The civic administration has launched a project to create a ‘brand name’ for the city

BANGKOK: -- The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), the municipal authority for Thailand’s capital, has launched a project to create an established “brandname” for the city.

Bangkok Governor Apirak Kosayodhin on Thursday launched the project, initially dubbed the ‘City of Life’.

The name of the initiative project will later be changed to ‘Harmony of Life’, as some have claimed that ‘City of Life’ is copyrighted by Hong Kong, Deputy Bangkok Governor Putthipong Punnakan said.

Under the project, a four-dimension development programme would be implemented to develop the city to meet the brand name, representing the capital’s clear image and globally recognised standard in the international community, said Kosayodhin.

The four dimensions include people’s high quality of life with safety, well-education and good health; good environment with limited pollution in all forms; enriched cultures and attractive tourist sites; and balanced economy based on the sufficiency economy principle advised by the King.

“Under the initiative, Bangkokians will also be allowed a full participation in the city’s policies and activities, which will also ensure the transparency and efficiency of the city authority,” said Kosayodhin.

Well, since they are sending you to sleep at 1 am, the city isn't that alive anymore, it's rather harmonious and I wish this was the only reason for giving Bangkok such a name, unfortunately I think one could find hundreds of them

I believe there is already more than one “city of Harmony” in the USA.

Anyway, what’s wrong with the old “Krungthep Mahanakorn Boworn Rattanakosin Mahintharayuttha Mahadilokpop Noparatratchathani Burirom Udomratchaniveymahasathan Amornpiman Avatransathit Sakkathattiay-avisnukarmprasit”,

or with the abbreviated English version “City of Angels”?

I like the bit about "a good enviroment". By that I presume they mean that every spare inch will be turned over to retail enviroment.

BMA to set up a fund for development of the city and quality of life

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) plans to set up a fund for development of the city and quality of life of people in the capital.

Bangkok Governor Apirak Kosayodhin (อภิรักษ์ โกษะโยธิน) said operations of the fund will cover four areas, namely quality of life, environment, culture and tourism and economy.

Mr. Apirak said 1% of the BMA budget will be allocated to start operations of the fund. The fund will be managed by representatives of the public and private sectors, he said.

The setting up of the fund will be proposed to the city council for approval, Mr. Apirak said.
