Retirement extension coming to the end....best options?

Featured Replies

Hi TV,

a friend has asked me for advise and I don't know enough to advise him accurately.

His retirement extension finishes soon and he wants to stay longer. (800k is no longer in his bank)

He lives near mai sai, could he go there and get a visa exempt for 30 days and then go to Vientiane for a multi entry tourist visa? Is this the best idea?

Any suggestions would be welcomed.

Thank you.

does he have a pension?

could than do the combo method but would need a letter from his embassy

no mutli tourist visa only double in Laos

He can also apply based on income of 65,000 baht a month OR a combination of yearly income and money in the bank in Thailand, together totalling 800,000 baht.

Otherwise what you suggest is a valid option.

He could do a border crossing for a visa exempt entry but would only get 15 days unless he is from a G7 country.

He could then get a 30 day extension of that entry at an immigration office.

He could get a 2 entry tourist visa (there is no multiple entry tourist visa) in Vientiane.

One more question, can he get a single entry tourist visa at mai sai?

I guess there is no problem doing an exempt or tourist visa when coming off a retirement extension as it would have been mentioned already.

It is not possible to get any visa in Myanmar other than at the embassy Yangon.

I hear that some visa brokers will pop 800K in your account, get your retirement visa, take the money back out, for a fee.

Subtle? Actually what he described seemed blatant, everybody knows. Obviously not illegal? Interesting comment though.

And the three months that the money is supposed to be in a bank account??? I fear the answer to that question.

I was just about to mention that .. Yes , does that work then ?

Obviously the Immigration officer takes a cut to ignore this technicality! whistling.gif

Thanks for all the info people.

I have a question. Is the retirement visa an extension of a non O visa (The big sticker that fills a page in the passport)

Or, is it JUST an extension stamp stating the date the extension is to?

I mean, if you only have the stamp and not a O visa itself......

It is an extension of stay stamp visas are not extended.

Might be wise to say no more.
