Chantaburi SDHS Office patrols streets, tackling issue of beggars

CHANTABURI, 29 Jan 2015, (NNT) - Chantaburi’s Office of Social Development and Human Security and other related offices yesterday initiated a campaign to reorganize local streets, tackling the issue of beggars.

The officials found 4 beggars during their patrol yesterday, all of them are disabled and of Thai nationality. The four were given medical checkups, before being sent home. Officials plan to find a job for each of them in order to prevent them coming back to roam the streets.

According to officials, the campaign is in line with the government’s policies to reduce social gap by providing citizens with equal access to all government services, job and stable income in order to prevent human trafficking, illegal entry, mistreatment of foreign labors, prostitution and vagrancy.

According to the Office, the province has coordinated with all of its 15 provincial police stations in dealing with the problem of beggars. Additional measures have also been put in place to promote the program, including putting up signs and advertising the campaign through local activities.

The Office has urged all who come across child labor activities or beggars on the streets to call Hotline 1300 to inform officials.
