Which artificial sweetener brand do you prefer in Thailand?

Featured Replies

I still read Thai at a very basic level so it's hard to see what's on the ingredient lists. I see Equal is sold at Big C, which is good. Which brand do you prefer and why?

PS: for the anti-artificial sweetener crowd, I'm sorry but this isn't the thread for discussing the possible health effects of sucralose, aspartame, or the others..

i prefer Stevia as a sweetener, Most of the others are too sweet and it seems too difficult to snap one in half , plus they are of dubious safety health wise.

ever since lidl came to the uk.i buy their's COLOGRAN low calorie.

1200 tabs.per.packet at eq.75bht.

i now have them sent in a jiffy bag by post.

only ever bought 1lot here 100bht.for 80tabs.

if you know anybody from germany get them to buy for you.

I bring a large supply of Sweet and Low from the US every year but when out I have to use Equal, only because it is usually the only brand available

Villa Market occasionally has Sweet and Low in individual packets but I stay away from their large jars since it is for the Arab market and tastes horrible for some unknown reason

If you have not noticed Thailand is a sugar cane country - and they pay the price. But that aside Equal is about it for any use other than weight loss brands. And there is no need to read Thai to buy it. You are not likely to find anything other than sugar used in processed or cooked foods. Even soft drinks without sugar are only starting to become available - and only a few and often out of stock.

I use Hermesetas from UK until I run out after each trip home, then I use Equal tablets which I find fine. If you worry about the health effects of any food products here in Thailand you might as well go home as we know pretty much everything is riddled with chemicals, pesticides, hormones and heaven knows what else.

I use those little sachets of Equal.

I've seen sucralose for sale at Tops.

The one on the left is the one from an Arabian country and has a strange taste. The one on the right are individual packets that taste just like the US made

The jar says made in the UK.

Yes and it is made under a license from the US. The jar also has arabic writing so it is probably made for the UK arabic market.......and it still tastes strange no matter where is was made... so if you like the taste of Sweet and Low don't waste your money on this type available at Villa
