Thailand bus crash kills three people

While I agree in principle with posts #4 & 5 it does seem to be the contractors at fault, but I've seen this happen in my area,( in one incidence several times at one particular set of road repairs) I asked the very same question to the contractor who had to pull vehicles out of the way every morning before he could continue work.... the answer was plain & simple:

We put up warning signs & lights every night but people steal them to sell for cash/recycling or materials for something else !!

TIT nothing more to be said !!

and paying for a night guard to watch the lights would be out of the question even when the consequences are well known. perhaps they should be charged with meditated murder right after you determine how much complicity there is with the local body snatchers/hospitals/etc

How can the night guard do this when hell be asleep??

Unfortunately a lot of accidents in hilly areas are caused by the drivers

not knowing to use the gears to slow down, and instead just use the brakes,

so when the really need them ,on a bend, they are too hot resulting in brake

fade, and they find too late they cannot stop,I have even heard some drivers

just knock the gear in neutral and freewheel down !, who needs brakes.

regards worgeordie

This is exactly what I was thinking ! If there is nobody on site , warning lights, wiring etc...disappears quickly......The police forces in Thaïland do not patrol high ways .

Mostly road block, speed trap and VIP escort, And naturally responding to some accidents.

The have the option of hiring someone to watch them at night. They can also, put surveillance cameras to watch the site. Neither are excessively expensive. Judgements against the construction companies may convince them that there are alternatives of having claimed to being this and that, which unfortunately is helping to cause these horrendous accidents.

Horrible news of course, but with more then 25.000 people killed in Thai traffic every year, I start to wonder why this is news, I think you can fill a daily news paper with all traffic accidents in Thailand..Nothing will change. Sad days for all the people involved.

"I think you can fill a daily news paper with all traffic accidents in Thailand."

As you could in any other country.

If you must be a Thai apologist, then there are other threads you could chime in and defend the Thais, but please not this thread. Even the Thais are sick and tired of the road accidents in their own country. Wise up

I know I have come close to hitting these barriers several times. For some reason they do roadwork in unlit areas that is pretty dark even with headlights and suddenly there is a barrier across the road in front of you with no form of warning signs or lights at all. Travelling at 100k( the legal limit) you dont have a lot of time to brake and move to the otherside of the road, often there is just a huge hole in the road where they have dug it up but no one stops to think to warn motorists that it is there. The ones running the roadworks should be charged with murder here, if they had bothered to use signs and warning lights it would not have happened, it appears profits are more important than lives in Thailand or is it that they are too lazy to put them out. Warning signs/lights are badly needed in this country how long till we get someone with the balls to tell the contractors they have to use them or face severe penalties

Really?

Most roads the limit is 90

It's obvious you missed the point entirely. .....at least in Most other Countries there adequate warnings.

RIP,

The amount of road deaths in Thailand is frightening, a high percentage of the deaths will be motorcycles. most of the vehicles are fairly modern, with some old wrecks thrown in, but its the commercial side, lorries and buses that cause deaths everyday, that is down to the government for lack of rules, maintenance, driver training and enforcement by government departments and the police.

I see we got to post 23, before some Brit bashing, quite good going really expecially in a thread about a bus crash.

Sad. Wear a seat belt.

How can you use a seat belt in a bus if you are to big for the seat belt. I'm 140 kg so every time I have to go Laos for make visa I felling I gambling with my live. The bus drive on road 2 over Khon Kaen Udon Thani and Nong khai. Road 2 in Thailand is very danger for accident.hit-the-fan.gif.pagespeed.ce.6UelFDbFNJLhit-the-fan.gif.pagespeed.ce.6UelFDbFNJLhit-the-fan.gif.pagespeed.ce.6UelFDbFNJLxsignthaivisa.gif.pagespeed.ic.hupuw2faw

I've ran out of fingers and toes to count in one month how many bus crashes occur in Thailand. Which is more safe, flying in storms or riding in a VIP bus?

Here's a novel idea like in days of old in my country USA, truckers, over-the-road drivers had CB's to communicate such thinks as road conditions, accidents etc.

How about the bus company makes a simple phone call daily to the authorities about the status of the roadway . Just like aircraft which get weather updates prior to departures. To simple to do?

This is good news.

Only three dead.

Better than the usual eight or ten.

Things are getting better!

Such an intelligent post.

Are you one of the Brits seen on Bangkok Airport?

offtopic2.gif What do I think is sarcasm or irony ...

Actually beowulf, Phatch was using a pint of sarcasm with a dash of irony.clap2.gif

So here we come to a problem I have conceived of in a long time.
I think thai drivers drive good.

The problem is Thai Cambodians.
Thai Cambodians as a Thai national make them as Thai city cent.
I'm sorry to say it, but I suppose Thailand could make a study of who is most involved in a mortorcykkel accident or car / bus accident. After the investigation is finished it will probably show the Thai Cambodians who are most involved in all accident.

They should charge Prajin with criminal negligence and seek his impeachment as head of ministry of transport.

You must be KIDDING.

How can he be responsible for NO lights.

A RED SHIRT comment?

Probably a bit like a French Canadian?

Benmart, have you any idea how long these road works are? I'm sure someone can give us the exact mileage but let me suggest they are well over a hundred kilometres long. Just travelled it the other day there and back. Plenty of warning signs which can be seen in the daylight but I agree very dangerous at night. Sheer drops on either side in many places, any motorcyclists who travel it from start to finish at night and survives should be given a medal, not sure if it should be for bravery or stupidity. Why they allow a contractor to rip up hundreds of k's all at once is beyond me. Why not start and finish say 10 k's at a time. As a previous writer said it has been going on for 18 months now and I cannot see for the life of me how it will be completed for at least one more year and probably a lot longer.
