Visa brain ache

Featured Replies

Hi guys, I have been reading the forum and read so many threads that I think I am on top of what I need to do but want to be sure before flying off somewhere.

I currently have a 90 day non immigrant o visa that expires in the next week or so. This was obtained with marriage cert to a Thai etc.

I was originally going to get the extension for the year but I simply don't have enough money in my bank so that is no longer an option.

I of course want to stay in Thailand as my wife is here and we get by, not a lavish lifestyle but we are happy.

I am thinking of leaving Thailand and going to get myself a 12 month multiple entry non o visa (again based on our marriage, I know I will get have to leave Thailand every 90 days or 120 if I get an extension each time) and just wanted to see if anyone thought I would have any problems.

a couple of questions really.

I live in Krabi, where would you suggest was the best place to travel to get the visa? i.e quickest turn around time, greatest chance of success.

Because I already have a previous multiple entry tourist visa in my passport and the 90 day o visa, will that go against me when I apply for multiple entry visa?

Am I right in thinking proof of funds is not necessary as I would have applied outside of Thailand?

Any help appreciated.

Many thanks

Savanakhet Lao would be the only option.

No finances needed.

Apply in the morning and pick up next day afternoon.

Before going to get the visa you could get a 60 day (there is no 30 day extension) extension to visit you wife.

If you don't have the financial proof to get an extension Savannakhet Laos is your only choice because they don't ask for any.

Like most locations you apply the morning of one day and pickup your passport the next afternoon.

You will just need your marriage certificate plus a copy, signed and dated copies of your wife's house book and ID card.

None of your previous visas or entries will be taken into consideration when you apply.

Thanks both,

to get the 60 day extension I can just turn up to immigration in Krabi and do that? I assume I have to pay 1900 Baht for that? And there is no financial proof needed for that?

Great info about Savannakhet that really helps, think that will be some trip from Krabi, but all part of the experience of being in Thailand :)

Your wife will need to go with you when you apply for the 60 day extension and no financial proof will be needed. Just the same documents I mentioned for the visa and possibly proof of residence if not living where your wife's house book is for. And of course 1900 baht.

You should check Air Asia and Nok Air for flights to Mukdahan that are a fly/ride service via Nakhon Phanom.

Thanks for the links they were useful. One thing I have just noticed while getting documents ready etc. is that I actually have two current visa's for Thailand. The triple entry tourist visa and the 90 day non o visa. The reason I got both was because after arriving here I got offered a job so left the country to get the non o when I arrived back in Thailand they stamped my tourist visa then stamped my non o visa as well. I don't work for the company long story but a waste of my time.

Something is bothering me though. I have one space left on my triple entry visa, but due to a lot of things going on in my life, moving house - wife starting a business it makes much better timing and sense for me to go to Lao and apply for the multiple entry non o, they won't refuse because I still have a space left on my tourist visa will they?

No problem to get a non-o with a valid tourist visa because it is a different class of visa. You might want to check the enter before date on that visa it might not be valid,

Is your O Visa Multiple Entry ? If so then it does NOT have an Expiry date at all, only a last date by which you can enter Thailand.

Enter before that date and you get another 90 days from your visa.

Thanks all,

It was just a single entry rather than multiple entry on the o visa. Well time for me to get my stuff together and get ready for long journey, Thanks all

Do you meet the 65,000 baht a month in income ?

You can get a income letter from Embassy if you do.

For a marriage extension only 40.000 baht/month is needed.

40,000 baht even better to get Non O smile.png

Did anyone find out if Savanaket stopped doing same day ?

As of yesterday no more same day service. There is a topic about it.

They announced that they would do so starting Feb 1, so today will be the first time.

OK yes that is were I read it but it seemed no one was sure it was real. So now we know for sure !!!! very good.

Ubonjoe you are always on top of things. GREAT JOB !!!!!

Personally I feel if some one is married he/she must get permission to stay for a longer period like 3 to 5 years in a row and then can apply for PR.

So much hassle isnt really nice.

What if the UK, European Union or the US or Australia sets the same rule like thailand, will they understand only then? Just wondering.

I see so many TVF members suffering on a daily basis with Visa issue.

How easy is it for a Thai person to gain entry to the UK, European Union or the US or Australia?

Are they able to just arrive to be welcomed with a visa exempt entry which can then be used to access long term permission to stay ?

Visa exempt, that is meant to facilitate tourism and business, has little to do with immigration policies for spouses and relatives.

About these, UK, US, Australia and NZ have burdening polices as well, the relationship has be scrutinized by some bureaucrat, with interviews, petitions, proof of funds guarantee and the like. I recall that the UK also has an eye watering fee for residency.

European Union (Schengen area) is different, spousal visa is granted immediately and is free. In fact a spouse can travel visa exempt when accompanied by the EU national. Permanent residence is also immediately granted, with no ifs and then. In the case of my country, citizenship cab be applied after 1-3 years of marriage, depending on place of residence and if there are any children.
