I figured I would put some of the bar expertise here to use. Does anyone know if these things (picture) have a proper technical name? Humorous replies welcome of course but I do genuinely want to know! The only Google search that yielded a few results was "paper bottle seal"

I'm guessing these things were originally used as a form of tamper prevention before sealed screw caps were invented. These days they are only there to make a product look a bit posh I suppose.

Think it's for 'tax-seal' as opposed to any type of certification regards bottle sealed, though someone will likely come along to enlighten us after having spent 15 minutes researching G. whistling.gif

They're there to signify that you're paying over the odds for imported beer.
