Mental Health Department: More Thais are suffering from mental disorder

BANGKOK, 3 Feb 2015, (NNT) - The Department of Mental Health has revealed that more and more Thais are suffering from mental disorders caused by factors such as economy, politics, natural disaster and depression.

According to Dr. Pongkasem Kaimuk, the Department Deputy Director-General, those prone to the illness consist mainly of the elderly who tend to have depression.

He said these people must be closely watched. The general public should have a firm understanding of what these people are going through, and have a good attitude toward them, in order to treat and care for them appropriately.

A seminar was held yesterday at Suansaranrom Hospital in Suratthani Province, educating nurses and related health officials in the mental health department on the proper treatment of and care for mental patients.The Deputy Director-General said he was convinced that the meeting would be another step toward building a happy depression-free community.

the mental disorders exhibited by the elderly (say 60 years of age +) are likely the least threat/concern to the general public. not too many gangs, rapist, purse snatchers, thugs, etc in the senior citizen groups here or the rest of the world, that i have heard about.

the groups who range in age from 15/16 to about 40+ seem to be responsible for most of the problems, which are blamed on drugs, booze, jeaously, lack of money, social/road rage, etc. (mental disorders), the older generation are the main stay of what little social order we see, apparently due to their acceptance of lifes ups and downs,as it is dealt to them.

No.... Those same mental disorders from old age are passed on to grandchildren because the parents don't want to raise their own kids and smack them onto their parents with or without disorders. So these kids are raised thinking its normal
