Ankle bracelets introduced first time to unruly student convicts

BANGKOK: -- The Samut Prakarn Provincial Court has enforced a supervised probation on the first group of six unruly students with ankle bracelets in its attempt to reduce student gang wars.

The six vocational students were ordered to wear the electronic behaviour monitoring devices during a period of one month in lieu of detention.

They were attested and convicted to imprisonment for body assault in inter school fighting.

But the court eased the sentence and ordered them to wear ankle bracelets during a period of one-month supervised probation instead.

They were banned from leaving homes during 10.00 pm-6.00 am and were required to report to corrections officials every three months.

Besides they were also prohibited from drinking alcoholic beverage, from smoking and from speeding.

All student convicts were also told to take care of the monitoring devices with warning that they could face up to a maximum fine of 50,000 baht if damage is caused to the monitoring device

The court has ordered the purchase of 30 monitoring devices for use in the first stage and hoped this measure could help to reduce the problem of gang wars among unruly students.

its a bullsh*t way out for the courts, better for them to lose face and do jail time but for some reason thai courts always take the easy way out and let the guilty off them wonder why so many are being killed. If they had to do jail time and face big fines we might get a bit less of this inter school rivalry crap but I doubt we will ever see a fair punishment dished out to these morons, will upset mummy and daddy too much, too much loss of face

Expect this to become a fashion statement in a few months.

clap2.gif isn't this quite a danger Then problems will increase not decrease as many in the relevant age group will just ' have to ' get one.

Dead Right NKK! Especially as they are called 'Ankle bracelets' here - that's a new one! w00t.gif

I always thought they were called 'electronic tags' - but then again... sweet Thainess has to errrm.... make them appear sweet? giggle.gif

And a month is not long enough - it will be all over as they get to the point of having stopped showing them off. whistling.gif

Perhaps they should find some way to implant a stun gun into the bracelets, and every time when they are not in school and come within 20 meters with someone else wearing one, it gives them a shock. Perhaps a belt near the groin area would be more effective. w00t.gifw00t.gifw00t.gif That should end the fashion statement rather quickly. .

No attempt has been made to try a find out why this behaviour is now becoming more prevalent everyday , one time you would never get boys or girls to come out without their parents till they were 17, so what has brought this on , moral decay of the adult population , generation change or facebook or all three , Thailand sure has been knocking up a few negatives over the last 10 - 15 yearscoffee1.gif

Personally, I think jail time would be better.

Not disagreeing, but a clip across the top of the head and a kick up the jacksie now and again might have done them a bit of good when they were at the right age to associate the pain with bad behaviour.

Worked on me.

IMHO it would be quite easy to find the same sentiments expressed about the authors countries of residence in 30 different languages, starting with Ancient Greek, Latin, Egyptian hieroglyphics.......................even Aboriginal rock art.

That is a result from the Universities where everyone passes. Make it more difficult till the drop out rate is >50 percent and the gang wars will stop, because who doesn't sit at home with the nose in the books will not pass the first year.

I think this has been a problem in certain segments of society worldwide since the beginning of cities. Most people prefer to just ignore that it exists.

So the cherubs really only have to be in the house between 10 pm - 6 am. Long enough to get some sleep and play on facebook and Line. No way to prove the other "punishment" prohibitions. This is about as effective as the recent approaches to prostitution, corruption, drugs, driving, etc.

"No way to prove the other "punishment" prohibitions." Well except for blood and breath tests, and traffic police.

Dunno, when I was a youngster at public school on the east coast of the US, there was no question at all. If you got out of line, the teachers would knock the snot out of you right in front of the whole class. Parents didn't get upset and depending on the severity, they might give you another smack when you got home, just to let you know there was no daylight between them and the teacher.

We moved to more liberal California and it was very different out there. Seems to be case everywhere nowdays X 10.

It would probably help if police did their job...

Im sure Thai people dont hold much respect from them either.. and that lack of respect would trickle down to the kids

Its amazing how many problems could be fixed just by a competent police force

That would require that they be caught and the follow-up done. Fat chance of that happening.

Something does not "Add Up"in this story ?
