PATTAYA:--A 70-year-old German was arrested for overstaying his visa after falling in love with a Thai woman on whom he spent all his money.

Wolfgang Brandes was taken into custody by immigration police Jan. 29 after residents near Jomtien Beach’s Ron Po Market reported a foreigner acting strangely. They found Brandes wandering in the road.

His passport showed he had permission to stay in Thailand until Sept. 5, giving him a four-month, eight-day overstay.

Police said Brandes claimed he ended up overstaying because he had fallen in love with a Thai woman who had drained all his money, leaving him unable to return home. He said he’d been living on the streets since.

He will be deported back to Germany.

Leaving brains at the airport is common for farang when arrive at land of scams. I mean some attractive young thai tells you "they love you"

I feel sympathetic to people found in such situations, adult people who give their money away freely regardless the situation. It could be drugs, gambling, greed or companionship but in most circumstances the individual made the choice themselves. My sympathy is not they find themselves in despair but rather too many give up on life when found in such situations rather than fighting back to improve themselves and their situation. The best years may be gone and riches had may be unobtainable but certainly better opportunities do exist. People need to have confidence in themselves to persevere otherwise depressions takes over and the well gets deeper. Life is precious and joyful.

Some 'old men' are amazed that they are not put out with the trash like they are back home. Job worth, women, and respect are lost when you hit 40, let alone 70. Old dudes chase attractive, loose (not to be confused with loose(sp) above, because they can. I am not at all surprised that a woman took a cheap shot at the poor 'old men'. Ponce De Leon roamed around Florida looking for the 'fountain of youth' and thought he found it in a central Florida spring. I found it in Pattaya town and still have some money left. Yeah, I don't feel sorry for the old dudes back home who sit around dark bars drinking and smoking cigs one after another. A great grandmother appears in the bar and poor old guys fall all over themselves trying to woo her. Yep, the monkeys are quite comfortable in their 'cages' dying a slow death.
