Lite Beer
Suspect's rights 'to be protected'THE NATION BANGKOK: -- Accused red shirt being questioned to uncover the 'mastermind' behind fake palace statement, Army saysKRIS BUDDEECHIN, the man suspected of disseminating a fake palace statement on a social networking site, is being held without charge under martial law but junta spokesperson Colonel Winthai Suvari has said Kris' rights would be protected. The comment was made as Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha - on his weekly national TV address yesterday - urged people to be careful and ensure that false information is not spread via social networking sites. The premier acknowledged that some people spread false information without knowing they were doing that, but he asked people who used social media to reduce the level of political hatred."The government has no intention of interfering or looking into what your secrets [on social networking sites] are," Prayut said, but added that there were people who want to destroy the country, the monarchy and the stability of the government.Under interrogationKris, a red shirt, was arrested on Wednesday in his home province Phetchabun by police and military officers. He has been detained and interrogated at the Eleventh Infantry Division in Bangkok.A lawyer sent to Kris by the red shirt United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship was not allowed to see him.Winthai said Kris had not been charged yet but he was being questioned to find out who the mastermind behind the fake document was.He said Army Chief General Udomdej Sitabutr, secretary general of the National Council for Peace and Order, insisted that the treatment of Kris was in line with security protocol and past cases handled under martial law.He also insisted everyone, including Kris, was appropriately taken care of while under military custody and afforded justice and consideration under human rights principles.Winthai called the fake document affair "a sensitive case which affects the feelings of many Thais", and a "violation" of royalists' feelings and their "right to love" the royal family. So, he said the case had to be handled carefully. Popular Post chooka
His rights will be protected. Isn't one of his rights being able to speak to a lawyer? He was refused this right. The P.M says people should stop posting miss-information and here and we have the very same people (gov dept) refusing him his rights and saying his his rights will be protected. If that isn't posting rubbish then what is? Edited February 6, 2015 by chooka
Popular Post NongKhaiKid
Forget support for either side of the massive political divide and look at what's happening overall. Detention without charge for AA, detention without charge, court appearance or seeing a judge, even in chambers, whenever it suits. People held incommunicado without access for family, friends or legal representatives. The young students detained for AA were seen being taken away but no further information was made available until they were released but everyone was happy so that's all good. In fact everyone detained without due process is happy when they are released, smiles and handshakes all round. This arbitrary detention issue is much beloved in countries that, well we know the kind of countries.

stickyrice2000
This is a call for desperation. Just beat the suspects up until he admits to the crime. Then, the lawyer can see him. This is a normal standard procedure in Thailand.

Exactly what every sociopathic, dictatorial, meglomaniac leader in history has always said. Standard practice. Problem is, as the general populace become more disenchanted with the lack of freedom, the more harsh and repressive the regime needs to be to stifle dissent. Soon everyone, apart from the few sycophants and toadies who might benefit, are living in fear. Be careful what you wish for.

nithisa78
We may not like it but it is sort of worldwide thing. You also can't believe everything you hear or read and often times see. Though, no doubt all of the posters are perfect people. Not one sheep among them. All leaders.
tbthailand
this guy was arrested on wednesday and is being questioned to uncover the 'mastermind' behind fake palace statement, Army says... so now on Friday they finally sought a warrant to arrest the ASTV Manager who did the same thing... clearly the ASTV Manager has no idea who the 'mastermind' is where as this 25 year old Thai musician (and red shirt) obviously does and it is only a matter of time and the right kind of interrogation to have him "fess up...
