Ban on fires proposed for North Thailand

The government needs to actively encourage farmers (et alia) to re-cycle instead of burning. Composting wherever possible will help the farmers with free natural fertiliser and will then help to reduce their costs and increase "profits".

A simple approach of education and encouragement, highlighting benefits instead of yet another laughable "crackdown" that achieves absolutely nothing.

Burning introduces potash and phosphorus and reduces nitrogen lock, so they are already getting this "help" for free without the added cost of making fertilizer. Burning is far cheaper and has a higher success than alternative techniques. They can also harrow after harvest but that costs for the tractor and does not kill all weeds. I am sure that many farmers feel that they just do not have an alternative and will continue to use burning until there is one which actually benefits them.

What about a nation wide ban all year round , farmland , forrest ,garbage

Even the open air cremations lit with diesel and car tyres.

I don't know what cremations you have attended but it is not lit with diesel and certainly not with car tyres.Best you get out and about a bit.

I believe that is how Pol Pot was cremated, some people get things a bit mixed up.

30% are from farmers clearing farmland. The other 70% of fires?

How about rubbish collections? Some areas in the North and North East have no refuse collections. So, they burn their rubbish. So. maybe helping these areas out by collecting the rubbish may help. Nope? No fires too? Ermmm...anyone see the problem here?
