Khlong Thom merchants threaten to block roads

BANGKOK: -- As officials seek to clear out the beloved mess by relocating vendors and hawkers in the Khlong Thom area to improve traffic, some dissatisfied merchants have threatened to block several roads if officials don’t provide better facilities at the new locations.

About 100 merchants gathered at City Hall yesterday to demand officials to improve the two locations under the Jaru Muang and Urupong expressways, where they have been told to move their businesses to from a list of 11 options.

They said they need simple necessities such as concrete floors, toilets and maintenance workers, as well as help marketing the new location so the public knows where to find them.
