I have been battling adult onset asthma for 3 years. I now suspect I have a silent reflux. The eye opening event is that I am back in Canada and have experienced a classic lump in throat syndrome every time I go outside in the cold (and it's cold here). What would be the best place to check for this in bkk? I don't have any classic symptoms of GERD but strongly suspect silent reflux. I usually go to Vejthani which is a nice clean hospital, but many doctors seem to lack experience. Some actually said "you can get asthma as adult?"

Esophageal reflux noticeable or silent is often associated with excess weight - fat around the middle and neck .. If that fits your description - then weight loss is essential ...

Also - learning to sleep in a reclining position helps a lot. Not eating late in the evening, Drinking alcoholic beverages to excess is another cause. And smoking is another.

O-Cid -- is a drug made in Thailand - a clone of an American drug will reduce acid production in the stomach.,

I wish someone can help me out here as I am getting pretty desperate.

I had an endoscopy done which confirmed a small hernia and silent reflux. I have been taking PPI for 5 days now and although the globus sensation is almost gone I still have trouble with breathing.... every single day. When this all started I was diagnosed with Asthma, but now I am 100% sure this is related to reflux. The main reason for this is that I am reading that if you have trouble breathing in it instead of breathing out this is most likely silent reflux.

I am not overweight. I am 192cm and 86kg. I do not drink alcohol whatsoever, do not smoke and have completely quit coffee. I also started eating more alkaline foods. I do not like to self medicate, but mind you I diagnosed myself with silent reflux AND THEN went to a doctor asking for endoscopy which confirmed my suspicion instead of keep using useless asthma medications I was given by several doctors which were not helping at all. I am just looking if anyone here had similar problems and how they resolved it.

This all stared almost 3 years ago after getting sick in Japan with a terrible flu.

Actually, trouble breathing associated with LPR is usually due to a reactive asthma.

Treatment of the LPG will usually improve the asthma as well. If not, surgery may be indicated.

Aside from PPIs, which you are alfeady on, Motilium is sometimes used.

Already using motilium 3 times a day along with gaviscon.

I am giving it time although it has been 6 days and meds are supposed to be working to their full effect.

I am still not sure this is Asthma as not a single Asthma medication ever helped me.

Also, Sheryl if it is Asthma after all and I am wrong, would it be advisable to keep using asthma meds? I got the gerd Symptoms once I started with either Ventolin or Budesonide. I literally never had any gerd symptoms before.

Adult Onset Asthma?  That's what I have, identified about five years back, and well controlled by SYMBICORT 2x a day.

My doc at Vibha Hospital also put me on SERITIDE for a spell, but she put me back to Symbicort a couple months ago.

I do have a Ventolin inhaler in my bag for, as they indicate, "emergencies" but have not had to pull it out for several years now.
