Can I do a in and out visa run at Huai Kon

Featured Replies

I guys I am moving from Chiang Rai to the little town of Pua in the Nan district next week and my 3rd entry

Visa is due on the 03 March, and I was wondering if I can do a quick border run at Huai Kon, meaning just

go out to Laos and come right back in Thailand like I did in Mae Sai border, or do I have to buy a visa and

stay one night in Laos.

Thanks for your help.

No need to stay the night but you will have to buy a Laos visa !

I am uncertain about whether Huai Kon is an International border crossing point but someone with that knowledge will come along and advise.

Yes is International border crossing ... I live in Nan and I went to Immigration's and check all the Thai details and they advice me that is International crossing and I can do a visa run no problems. But check with Nan immigration's again just in case there was a change.

I will do a run tomorrow - I do not need a Thai visa because my south American passport so is easy for me only a Laos visa.

Just go across and back again ....Done.

Easier if you get your Thai visa before U go ... Nan will do for you easier

The last I read about it is that there is no Lao visa on arrival available there. Immigration may say it is an international crossing but it you don't already have a Lao visa you cannot do it.

The motorcycle guys from Chiang Mai quite often enter Laos at the Huey Khon-Muang Ngeun border crossing with Visa On Arrival. Not a problem, been so for about five years now.

Don't know about "in & out" as the Thai and Lao Immigration offices are about one km apart.

Much fun with transcription gigglem.gif

No idea whether this is a reference source:

WHERE CAN I GET A LAO VISA-ON-ARRIVAL?

...

Houi Koln – Nam Ngeun, Nan to Sayabouly Province

Houi Koln = Huai Kon / Huey Khon?

Sayabouly Province = Xayabury District?

But sounds consistent with previous post.

To add to the contusion this list shows it to be crossing by boat or ferry. http://www.immigration.gov.la/border.html

Number 22 "Nam ngeun - Huay konl (Thailand)"

I just confirmed the availability of Visa On Arrival for Laos at the Huey Khon-Muang Nguen crossing with a couple of the frequent road travelers from Chiang Mai.

But, no info on In-Out from these guys as they travel beyond the border point.

On the Google sat view one hardly sees a puddle at the jungle border point biggrin.png

Seems like somewhere into Laos there is a ferry?

I am just the messenger. Just pointing out what it shows on that website.

There is a ferry from what I understand at number 10.
