Pattaya massage parlor raided for trafficking Thais overseas

PATTAYA:--Authorities raided a Pattaya massage parlor that allegedly was trafficking Thai masseuses to South Korea.

Pattaya police and representatives from the Chonburi Employment Office set up the Feb. 13 sting operation that snared Chalida Thai Massage.

Authorities said Chalida was charging a 14,000 baht service charge and 3,500 baht for a training course to find Thai women to work in South Korea. Employment Office staffer Saranya Kaewboonruan went undercover to determine the fees and called in officers once money was exchanged.

Police arrested owner Chalida Seesudakul, 40, for acting as an overseas employment agent without permission.

Officials also questioned South Korean agent Oh Heechang, 44, who worked with the massage shop and was enjoying a rubdown at the time of the raid. He was released without charge.

I would not describe this as a case of human trafficking.

The said massage parlour was acting as a base for agents to send women abroad who were willing candidates for working as masseuses in South Korea. These women only claim human trafficking and slave labour if the job doesn`t work out and are usually fully aware of what they are getting into and the risks involved.

Exactly the point. What constitutes as a case of human trafficking?

It appears that agents hiring women who are knowingly and willingly wanting to work as prostitutes abroad are human traffickers

So what`s the difference between agents or pimps in Thailand hiring Thai women to work as prostitutes in Thailand and those sending them abroad to go on the game?

In my opinion a human trafficker is someone or a gang that dupes women into being prostitutes abroad by false pretences or forces women into prostitution abroad against their will, but the law does not seem to be able to differentiate between women willingly going on the game abroad and those who are conned or forced into it.
