'Chinese tourist' filmed kicking Chiang Mai temple bell

With many westerners having abandoned Thailand as a tourist destination, mainly due to the scams, over-pricing and increasing violence, this is all you have left. Ultimately Thais are only interested in quantity as they think the masses will spend money. This is not the case as most of them on are a packaged deal and spend very little.

I'm afraid, despite the glaring truth, the Thais will never learn and will just march on in madness regardless.

And another thread that starts with a Chinese (maybe) misbehaving and quickly descends into blatant Thai bashing.

As for the comments that Thailand drives away the "quality" tourists (would that be the sexpats in Patong?) by attracting Chinese: better get used to it, not just Thailand but all over the world.

"It will take some time to say whether the tourist is actually Chinese," Chuan said. "But judging from his style, he was kicking his feet with so much agility, it was like kung <deleted>."

More fine detective work. Pray this guy isn't brought in for professional testimony if you ever find yourself in court.

Doi Suthep temple to ask tour operators educate tourists

23-2-2558-11-14-28-wpcf_728x411.jpg

CHIANG MAI: -- A video clip posted on Facebook showing a foreign male tourist using his leg to beat the fortune bell on Chiang Mai's Doi Suthep temple went viral on the social media with many saying it was inappropriate and showed no respect to the sacred place.

The incident also prompted the temple to investigate and asked tour companies and their guides to educate their customers of proper conduct while visiting temples in the North.

The short clip posted Facebook by May Jiraporn lambasting a Chinese man for his ugly behaviour when he posted for photographs with the bell and then used the right leg to beat the bell instead of using hand.

The clip was widely shared on the social network with strong comments attacking the Chinese tourists again for the inappropriate behaviour.

A official of Doi Suthep temple Mr Chan Patwan said he could not comment on whether the tourist was Chinese, as he did not witness the incident firsthand.

However, he said that many Chinese tourists visited the temple over the weekend.

He said it could take some time to say whether the tourist is actually Chinese.

“But judging from the kicking style with so much agility, it was like kung <deleted>.”

He added that the temple has asked all tour companies and guide associations in Chiang Mai to teach their customers about proper etiquette when visiting temples, historic sites, and other important destinations.

He expressed optimism that this would not create a negative image for Chinese tourists.

The controversy came during a mass influx of Chinese tourists to Thailand for the “Golden Week” of the Chinese New Year.

Tourism Authority of Thailand earlier estimated that over 90,000 Chinese tourists will visit Chiang Mai during the holiday.

Although it is estimated that the Chinese tourists will generate millions of baht in revenue for the Thai tourism industry, but many Thais have complained that the Chinese tourists are poorly behaved and ignore local customs.

Earlier, Chalermchai Kositpipat, the designer and administrator of the famous Wat Rong Khun in Chiang Rai province, briefly banned Chinese tourists from visiting the temple because of their “improper” use of the site’s toilets.

But he lifted the ban by the day’s end, while remaining wary of Chinese tourists.

Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) director Wisut Buachum said he has been informed about the incident at Doi Suthep temple.

He admired that such behaviour was inappropriate, regardless of the nationality of the tourist.

He said the TAT was collecting problems and issues about tourists’ behavior that happen frequently, in order to discuss them with relevant agencies.

But he said he thought it was only the minority of Chinese tourists while the majority fully cooperated.

Thailand, your scams and your greed have driven away, and are driving away, the very ones you should be trying to keep, and wooing those you will regret ever coming here much sooner than later.

Som nom na.

Damn right.

That man is a pure 100% quality tourist, are your arms still oprn and welcoming these people General?

Tards,the lot of them.

Its more bad manners and bad behaviour that in general is on the low end of the scale.

I find them disgusting in personal habits but nothing like the tattooed roid freaks walking around with

no shirts on intimidating people.

90,000 and say 10 fools, I can cop that.

Take a look around Pattaya, Phuket and Bangkok during the holidays and you'll see

some of the lowest toe rags on earth with a few drinks in them doing much worse.

Maybe charging for a visa instead of freebies might filter things a bit.

It certainly costs the rest of us time and money to enter China.

Did they arrest this guy? Why not?

Same with all Chinese jumping qeueu's at the airports, did the Thai do anything to stop them from doing so? Why not?

Same with all taxi's in Phuket, why they don't (have to) use the metre? Why not?

The Chinese tourist's lack of respect for religious sites may be due to having been brought up in a communist nation where all religion is frowned upon. They have no idea how insulting raising the foot can be much less the amount of respect or the type of behavior that is expected of any religious site in Thailand.

quite a reasonable analysis.

in the meanwhile thailand herself seems to have done much more to desecrate buddhism. from monks just learning ceremonies that will be of commercial money making value to monks using their positions to launder money, scam, cheat, use and/or deal drugs, sex with women and men both adult and minors, acquire substantial wealth, etc etc etc.

the country would be lucky if the sole disrespect defamation of buddhism were a tourist kicking a bell.

Every time I go to that temple there is somebody abusing those bells or the big gong. Nobody ever does anything about it. I watched a little French kid (I knew he was French because he was wearing a beret) slowly go through each bell wackin it as hard as he could over the course of 5 minutes last time.

It's called "The Bliss of Ignorance" and is not limited to people kicking revered bells either: "Chooka", "Mango Bob" and a few other perennial TV-Posters . . . . . When reading some of their posts, I often wonder "Do you REALLY have nothing better to do ?" (such obviously Empty Lives they must lead . . . .)

and who made you holier than thou? I bet you sit there surrounded by mirrors grooming and idolising your self and turn up your nose at everyone. Do you having nothing better to do than publically glorifying yourself and put others down on public forums?

Chooka... you reap what you sow... I have been on this Forum for a few years now, and it's true that you often insult people who are not on your side. When you answer to someone whose opinion you don't like, you often start with something like 'what a load of crap'. Forums are for discussing, sharing, agreeing, disagreeing, but not insulting. Violence begets violence, so don't be surprised when people lash out at you.

I think you have me confused with someone else. I have made hundreds of public apologies on here is I accidently insulted someone and I never start a reply with the term what a load of crap.

Hey Chooka, don't stress mate. All is sweet. People can understand because they know you are a Saints supporter 5555 thumbsup.gif

Mandatory classes in Chinese schools to learn about western culture is the only way.

We automatically learn "common sense"

Sorry but are you forgetting where you are........This issue is happening in an Asian country. Why would they need to be educated in western culture?

Westerners automatically learn common sense........The most hilarious comment ever !!!

Isn't it wonderful? Another quality tourist in action!

Thailand's reaction to this will most likely be (taking thainess into account):

1) Crackdown on part-western-owned travel operators only who serve Chinese clients to find out if the western owners have their work permits and TAT licenses in order while handing them brochures written in Thai on how to teach their guests proper behavior.

2) Laxer immigration and visa rules for those quality tourists.

3) 500,- Baht fine for the person who shot the video for filming unethical behaviour in a termple compound.

4) PM announcing on telly, that the temple bell itself was at fault since it basically asked for being kicked because it was "beautiful", ending his statement with the words, "An ugly bell would be more unlikely to being kicked..."

5) Nationwide ban on polished and "beautiful" looking temple bells.

Why is kung <deleted> deleted? Is there something offensive about the little two letter word that starts with F and ends with U?

I ran into this recently when I posted something about Google-<deleted>, and would like to know if I, in ignorance, am being insensitive.

Yeah I wondered how '<deleted>' could be offensive .:o

China is to teach its travellers good manners

China is to launch in October 2014, according to schedule, a new law to 'teach manners' to its visitors abroad. The new legislation is to set a series of behavioral standards Chinese travellers will have to observe when making a trip beyond their nation's borders..............
