Stillborn piglet becomes new hope for Thai villagers

Kamphaeg Phet:- Local villagers who believe in superstition have been flocking to a house in Kampphaeng Phet’s Klongsarn district, hoping a stillborn piglet there could give them luck in lottery betting.

They have been visiting the house of Amporn Chansri, 49, in Bueng Lom village of Tambon Klong Nam Lai since Saturday when the piglet was born in clear mutation. But the believing villagers see that the piglet resembled to the Hindu God Ganesh who has an elephant head.

The piglet was about 32 centimeters long and its body was measured at 24-cm while its weight was about 1,500 grams.

The local vllagers and people in neighboring villages who heard words of the piglet with one big eye and a trunk-like nose came to Amporn’s house with joss sticks to pray on it. They hoped to see certain visions that they could interpret into numbers for betting on the lottery for the end of this month draw.

During the past four days, Amporn placed the piglet on a worshipping tray and covered part of its skin with gold leaves. She said the piglet was still not rotten on the fourth day when she decided to put it in a jar of liquid preservatives after she led villagers worshipped it for many hours during the day.

Amporn said she did not mind the villagers coming to pray but she doesn’t want them to have high hope that they would win lotteries. She said the issue depends on one’s own belief.

Thais are known for their belief in things that are extraordinary and they often interpret them as being sacred and could help them win lotteries.

It is exactly these kind of things that are so respectfully representative of the Ancient and Holy Thai culture that goes back many many hundreds of years. Should be more news like this that can promote the admirable Thai culture and get more tourists to visit Thailand for it's revered and ancient Culture.

These are the exact same people that worship "The Sand Man" in Dubai. Why am I not surprised.

How and why the <deleted> did you manage to relate the OP to Thaksin?!

The mind boggles!

As someone pointed out before me: is there no end to stupidity here?

Coming from the user with the pedophilic circusman monicker.

Didn't anyone tell you, clowns are creepy.

Just clarify circus man wants posters not to comment on stories unless they are serious comments, presumably from posters with serious usernames like circus man.

Good luck with that agenda!

Why can't these people find a more credible superstition to practise, like the one about the Jewish girl that got knocked up by some powerful invisible creature. I understand a lot of people pray to her son for lottery winners and many other things, like scoring a touchdown in American football. Now there's a superstition that makes sense.

I couldn't agree more. The worship of the virgin born zombie and his canabalistic vampire death cult is far more sensible.cheesy.gif

What hope has our species got? Without enlightenment not much I suspect.

Well put! Stupidity/superstition is not restricted to one nation. There are the slices of toast that bear some resemblance to the son of god, sometimes shadows on a garage wall and the like. It's all over.

Excellent post- billions believe in the whole sky fairy conspiracy - wars have been waged, crusades, Islam seeks to wipe out civilisation ( mind you if they succeeded in banning rap would be a good thing)

All because of a unswerving belief in non existent gods .

I find the superstitions held by many Thais quite harmless- they don't go about beheading people because of an image of Ganesh- this would happen in parts of Syria and Irag.

Don't forget there is no God in Buddhism

Comparing the worshipping of a stillborn, deformed, one-eyed piglet for the purpose of winning the lottery, with a well-established religion, is a bit juvenile, don't you think?

On the one hand, fiction and superstition and on the other hand fiction and superstition. I see no issue there.

Nonsense? Are you crazy?

I think there's a bargain to be snapped up.

100,000 baht? They must be worth millions!
