Mobile phone users pay more with new per second call charges, says watchdog

A telecoms watchdog has found that mobile phone users in Thailand end up paying more for mobile phone calls under the new per second call charge packages.

The change to the way mobile phone calls are charged in Thailand was announced in January after the National Reform Council’s consumer protection panel demanded mobile phone operators charge consumers per second, rather than charging per minute, as the NRC believed that per second call charges would result in lower costs for mobile phone users.

However, in what seems to be a turnaround by the authorities, chair of the NRC’s panel on consumer protection, Saree Ongsomwang, has revealed that the new per second call charges actually cost users more compared to the old per minute call packages.

Consumer awareness is very low in Thailand. That's how most shops offering up to 90% discounts for toothpicks, and remaining items are sold as normal price.

More over court has no time to except counting the rice bags left over from old government.

That's how the telecom companies make hands-on-hands deal with politicians, and Thaksin and Thaicam ran away with most Thai's money. There no Telecom regulatory authority in Thailand which can control the maximum tariffs for the subscribers.

That's how rest of Asia paying 50 satang per min, and most Thais are paying more than a baht average!

Perhaps the headline should open with Female Mobile Phone Users...........

I can say what needs to be said in most phone calls in less than a minute. OTOH the girlfriend spends hours on the bloody thing, and could superglue it to her lug-hole if she didn't need to see it to punch in the next number.

You don't say , wonder how you worked that out.coffee1.gif

Voice recognition could solve that problem!

Then I suppose you still have the charging issue?

Read the entire article and it still doesn't explain WHY the new billing system is costing more, just that it is

Thai Tech News Team needs to learn how to report: , who, what , when, where and why

Perhaps the headline should open with Female Mobile Phone Users...........

I was thinking more along lines of "Hot Thai Totty Phone Rip-off" to match the photo.
