‘Putin clearly won’: Pundits say meeting was ‘bad for Americans’
Putin is clearly an enemy of the western world, and he is a genocidal maniac dictator, yet Trump greets him warmly, rolls out the red carpet, gives him a pleasure ride in the limousine, and talks so kindly of him after the unsuccessful summit, in which Putin yielded nothing. It is a fascinating exercise in negotiations and political leadership to compare a tiny man like Trump to a towering giant like Churchill, who was arguably one of the top heroes of the past century. Without his leadership and courage who knows where the world would be today. This was a quote from him during his address of the joint session of Congress on December 26th, 1941. You do not, I am certain, underrate the severity of the ordeal to which you and we have still to be subjected. The forces ranged against us are enormous. They are bitter, they are ruthless. The wicked men and their factions, who have launched their peoples on the path of war and conquest, know that they will be called to terrible account if they cannot beat down by force of arms the peoples they have assailed. They will stop at nothing. They have a vast accumulation of war weapons of all kinds. They have highly trained and disciplined armies, navies and air services. They have plans and designs which have long been contrived and matured. They will stop at nothing that violence or treachery can suggest. Provided that every effort is made, that nothing is kept back, that the whole manpower, brain power, virility, valor and civic virtue of the English-speaking world, with all its galaxy of loyal, friendly or associated communities and states-provided that is bent unremittingly to the simple but supreme task, I think it would be reasonable to hope that the end of 1942 will see us quite definitely in a better position than we are now. And that the year 1943 will enable us to assume the initiative upon an ample scale. Some people may be startled or momentarily depressed when, like your President, I speak of a long and a hard war. Our peoples would rather know the truth, somber though it be. And after all, when we are doing the noblest work in the world, not only defending our hearths and homes, but the cause of freedom in every land, the question of whether deliverance comes in 1942 or 1943 or 1944, falls into its proper place in the grand proportions of human history. Sure I am that this day, now, we are the masters of our fate. After the outrages they have committed upon us at Pearl Harbor, in the Pacific Islands, in the Philippines, in Malaya and the Dutch East Indies, they must now know that the stakes for which they have decided to play are mortal. When we look at the resources of the United States and the British Empire compared to those of Japan; when we remember those of China, which have so long valiantly withstood invasion and tyranny-and when also we observe the Russian menace which hangs over Japan-it becomes still more difficult to reconcile Japanese action with prudence or even with sanity. What kind of a people do they think we are? Is it possible that they do not realize that we shall never cease to persevere against them until they have been taught a lesson which they and the world will never forget? What a statesman, what an orator, what a man, and what an astonishing contrast to current day leadership, or lack thereof. -

Finally have a retirement date, what now?
Marriage-based extensions are a PITA - so, since you have the 800K to lock-up in a Thai account, definitely do retirement-based. You can get a 90-Day Non-O "based on retirement" (not marriage, and not O-A) from the Thai consulate in the USA before coming. This will be easier than making a switch from a "tourist" type entry in-country - saves 2 trips to immigration here. Also easier to open a bank-account (if needed). Also avoids other hoops for the switch from a tourist-entry to a Non-Imm - not needed for the 1-year extension. Even if you do not plan to use marriage-based extensions, if you were not married in Thailand, get the paperwork needed to register your marriage here before you come, and get that done. It might be helpful for something later. -

Denmark have just joined the Netanyahu slam. Soon it will be the entire world, bar you know who. Trump, if you want the Nobel, cut all financial aid and weapons to the murderous Israel. You will become a pariah as well. -

Politics Governor Seeks Phuket Upgrade to Tackle Island Woes
A good start would be eliminating at least 60% of the automobiles. If you are a foreigner you have to prove "hardship case", i.e. show work permit proving you need a car to get to work. Otherwise foreigners not allowed to have cars. Yes, yes, I know, there would be graft and such to get around it, but man, the amount of vehicles on Phuket's roads is unsustainable.
