Keesters,

then I'm sorry for bashing you.

Please understand there's many Farangs here in Pattaya that talk about fortunes they have, and then it turns out they are criminals.

I was deeply shocked when I read a post in TVF about land ownership restrictions in Thailand, saying "Nuke them if they don't let us do our investments like we want".

Sorry, I chose to live in Thailand, and I don't want my family or me being nuked.

Apology accepted. I'd advise you to be careful in accusing people of crimes without evidence. Not so many would be so forgiving. My fortune is not that big, well not anymore. And it was nowhere as big to get me in the Fortune top 500 that has listed Thai criminals before. Maybe one famous one TS is still there. He as you should know is in exile avoiding a prison sentence.

Comments like nuke them should be shrugged of as bad humour. Nobody would be doing that. I must admit to once saying regarding why I'm not allowed a small plot of land to own. "What does the government think I'm going to do with it. Build a nuclear silo."

Have a nice day.

Keesters,

yet I don't see why you're so upset.

You're complete anonymous here, your company is anonymous, and you don't even claim to have experiences with Thai workers.

I mean 'Farang criminals' when I write 'Farang criminals', not any exiled Thai.

Quite content to learn that you were not allowed to own land in Thailand.

You better stay where you are.

What gives you the opinion I'm upset. I'm not. In fact it is you I thought was you that was upset in your idle defense of the Thai and condemnation of anything Farang.

I have had experience with Thai workers. Go back to post #110 and you will see. That is where it all started between us. You seem to lose the plot, misinterpret and jump the gun on everything. Is English not your 1st language? I'm beginning to think so. Your post above is the one and only time you have used the term "Farang Criminals". So I have no idea what you're getting at. You may be content that farang cannot own land here but many are not and would like to see the same applied to Thai citizens forbidding them to own overseas. Only then would it be fair to forbid farang owning here. As it is it is all one sided. Or are you not for equality?

Don't worry I am staying where I am and that is in Thailand, my home for the last 30 years, a country I have raised a family in. A country I have come to love. But none of that doesn't mean I have to stop wanting changes or that I have to blindly believe that all Thais can do no wrong and the bad guy is only and always will be farang. There is good and bad in both.

You seem to be upset with Thais, and I'm upset with Farangs.

Too many Farangs turned out to be scammers, romising wealth to Thais when already broke. Some were just criminals.

You seem to condemn Thais for putting the blame for everything on Farangs. I can't see this, especially whe stories about police work on this forum.

I'm for equality (only) on a per capita basis (incl. children), not on a $ basis.

I'm for the equal right to select the family you want to support. This right was denied to me, racial prejudices against Thai women turned out to be more common than I thought.

And you're right, my first language is not English, I'm German. A live long member of various minorities. Maybe that's why I'm so sensitive.

No I'm not upset with Thais only did you not read where I said there is good and bad in both. And not only will you find farang scammers you will find Thai ones to. Good and bad in both. What part of that do you not understand.

Don't understand what you mean in your ideas of equality. Please explain. And also answer my question about land ownership. Stop avoiding it. Your answer will tell me much about you and your idea of quality.

Police work. There are an awful lot of bad policemen in Thailand. Some are being put where the deserve to be. Thank you general pm. But I've also met some nice ones here. Had them help push my car when it broke down in a junction. Escort me to a hotel in a remote part of the country. Sort out the problem of an annoying new neighbor and their dog. Again good and bad in both. You would do well to start looking at things that way. You'll find happiness.

Equality and land ownership:

My idea is that Farangs join Thais in Thailand to live together with them. The basic concept is a family. A family consists of at least 2 people, rather 3 if you have or want children. Quite unlikely that a Farangs will get the majority by heads in a mixed-national family.

Each family should have a piece of land, a house or flat, maybe with a garden or a shop - whatsoever. That's equality.

In Western urban areas it's only the money that counts. With the most probably result that more and more people have to live on the streets because they can't pay the prices for flats anymore. This scenario is getting more and more common in Western countries now. And Thailand should not repeat Western mistakes.

P.S. Land ownership for industry, infrastructure or offices may be treated on another base.

But the farang is head of the family in most instances. So does he get to own the land, jointly with his Thai wife if you like? After all it probably was his money that bought it. Or are you saying that the land is free allocated by the government on an as needed basis. I have a friend who subscribes to that theory.

No, not the Farang man is the head of family, the Thai woman and mother is (usually)

Yes, land is (or should be) allocated on an as-need basis by government. Money alone won't make you happy.

My slip about man being head I should of said husband and wife jointly and equally. Not one or the other both. Responsibilities to be mutually agreed. In my case it was everything because she ran away and left me the kids including one who was not mine. But never mind I loved him the same as the other.

You see it's not only the man that deserts a marriage. Neither is it women only who are single parents.

Not sure about the land thing. Can't work out how we could transfer what we have now to another untried system. My friend has tried but in the end hr can come up with no workable system. He lectures in Australia on it. Has about 100 followers.

Money sure can't make you happy but it sure can buy what you need. Food, school supplies, pay the electric and water etc. Is there any country that doesn't have it?

Guess the 49pct ownership limit is just to make secure Thais' rights to veto.

The possibility that a woman runs away should always be taken into consideration.

Since I don't know details of your special situation, I would advise you to contact a lawyer.

Money is oK as long as it's only used as a medium for exchange.

But when talking about "capital" you usually include interest - ie money on money. The exponential growth of debts overcomes the growth of real values, and Thailand might not want to get into a vicious circle.

49pct suxxs. If the Thai put up 51% the money then OK. Glad I went about it a different way until kids were old enough to own it 100%. They've given me a usufruct on the house for life. Not sure if that is entirely legal but that is what it says. Don't need it anyway as I trust them and they both have their own places fully paid for.

The biatch. Water under the bridge. Good ridance. Kids are grown up. Don't need any lawyers any more. I'll never marry again so no sweat about not have divorce. If she wants to I can claim desertion and she will have to pay all costs.

I live within my meager means quite happily now. Done my travelling and my pilgrimage. Happy to sit and watch a few movies, take the dog for a walk, clean up the beach. Not a shinawatra type always out for more more more.

ignorance is bliss - this is not an insult, but in this case perhaps it could be considered the truth. Although I believe the ever-growing middle class is gravitating towards an increasingly more stress filled and material-driven life style, Thailand and its citizens are pretty chill.

And the middle class is growing and growing in numbers.
