You need to be more specific. Many of these words are used in different ways in English. E.g.

"He was executed on the determined day", "He was determined to climb the mountain".

"He had a positive attitude", "The positive terminal of the battery", "A positive nuisance"

"He was patient", "He was a patient".

Yep as above, you'd need to put these into context to get a correct translation. As the reason why your dictionary has multiple meanings, is that these words have multiple meanings (Even in English)

e.g.

Loud

This can refer to the sound being loud (high volume), or your shirt is loud (bright).

Also aside from different meanings of the words, there may be some which are simply identicle words for the same thing, or perhaps meanings that are more/less formal.

So there isn't necessarily a single translation for any, and your best bet is to try to understand the various dictionary definitions and when each is appropriate (Or inappropriate) :)

There is no easy route to the "right" translation.

Ambiguity (depending on context) is part of the problem when translating and one of the main causes for the failure of automatic translators.

I can only suggest to use more than one dictionary, e.g.

http://www.thai-language.com/dict , http://www.thai-language.com/dict/search

http://www.thai2english.com/).

Also do reverse translation with both dictionaries.

thai-language often offers misc example sentences for the word, so you get a better idea.

It would probably help if you give an example English sentence for each of the words.

Wading through different sources:

"determined" in the sense of "to be intent to do sth.": ตั้งใจ (tang chai), reverse translated literally like: "make/made up your mind".
