There seemed to be a private party somewhere that needed some tables and chairs to be used. Check the social circles

where the party is going to be at! Quick note: The Thai government just released this important news: The tax on houses will be exempt for first home buyers.

These vendors have no other means of income so of course they'll keep trying to work the beaches. It's that or starve. There is nothing wrong with forbidding them from the beaches now but some consideration must be given to them to continue working. They are not looking for cash handouts that farmers have been getting. They deserve respect.

The government has taken to employ rice and sugarcane farmers during drought times in civil projects so that they will continue to earn income. It needs to do something of the same for beach vendors. But that may require retraining and creative solutions to relocate the vendors to industries where they can both contribute to society and to the own survival.

This military government seems to adhere to tried and true practices with little penanche towards creative solutions. Since they are not accountable to the citizens, they seem blind to citizen needs.

'These vendors have no other means of income so of course they'll keep trying to work the beaches. It's that or starve'

What a load of uninformed tosh!

There is plenty of paid work to be had in Phuket. These people don't want to work, they want to sit around while the money rolls in as they have been doing illegally for years.

That's why they keep trying to get back on the beaches.

I have a neighbour who recently sold a beach chair 'concession' for 15 million baht!! A shock for the 'buyer' when the military arrived I should imagine.

Keep these vultures off the beaches!

Plenty of Thais manage to get food on the table without working illegally.

How about a thief stealing in order not to starve. Does he deserve respect too?

I do not think there is a shortage of jobs. It just pays better to work the beach.

"Plenty of Thais manage to get food on the table without working illegally." - depends on your definition of "working illegally."

With all the collusion and monopolizing on Phuket, there is a fine line between working "legally" and working "illegally" here. The biggest and most obvious industry being transport.

In any case, why are the jet-skis still operating?

I'm all for clear beaches, as anything else but clear beaches is impossible to regulate here, due to the level of corruption on Phuket, but these beach vendors must look out at the jet-skis and wonder why they can't operate, when the jet-skis can.

Good they know the score, but constantly ignore the law, this is how it got so bad in the first place, people just ignored the police and the law, paid corruption money, and it just got worse from then on, I hope they keep and confiscate their goods

It is probably down to their status being more powerful with who they know, they too should be kicked off the beaches, they are worse than the venders

I doubt, anyone will starve! They set-up a little business where they like, then seem to adopt the attitude that

because they are there, the patch then belongs to them! They know they are breaking the rules. Serves them right as far as I'm concerned! Want all for nothing mentality, Typical T.I.T

Serves them right! Its about time these people learnt responsibility comes at a cost. If we could all do what we wanted, the place would be in far worse state then it is now. Uneducated, comes to mind. Not surprisingly.
