MasterCard released their index of Women’s Advancement, ranking Thailand women as the most progressive over the last year

MasterCard released their latest index of Women’s Advancement. Thailand women progressed greatly in 2014, rising 20.4 points to number one on the list. A total of 16 countries in Asia Pacific were included in the list, and most other countries are not progressing as fast as Thailand in women’s business leadership.

MasterCard states that while women are often more educated than males in Asia, many countries are hiring more males. Citing studies, a spokesperson for the company states that companies benefit greatly from having women in leadership roles.

The study is comprised of three areas: employment, capability and leadership. Thailand’s women performed very well in the capability segment due to tertiary education. The study shows that capability and business leadership are closely linked. However, Thailand’s women declined in other areas of the study by 7.2 index points.

Women in Thailand, along with New Zealand, Vietnam, Sri Lanka and the Philippines all maintained a score of 100 for capability. This metric indicates that women in all 5 of these countries performed better or are on par with their male counterparts in education.

Employment among Thailand’s women in business was lower than hoped. Of all the countries included, only two had more than 50 business owners or leaders for every 100 males: New Zealand and the Philippines. However, Thailand women have progressed the most in this area in the last year. Figures were not provided for Thailand in this area.

Since 2007, Philippines, Singapore and Indonesia showed the most advancement in women’s leadership. The Philippines raised their index by 12.2 points, Singapore by 8.7 points and Indonesia by 7.5 points in the time period.

The index shows that women across all of Asia are progressing in the markets.

Women in leadership have to be either business owners, leaders or political leaders to be counted in the index.

Add all "mama san" and get to the top of the list

sex sells

Not surprising in Thailand as it is the women who do all the work. They support their families, mother , father , lazy brothers even lazier husbands. Work their butts off to send money home. Where are the men? Sitting around driving motor cycle taxis, tuk tuks or just sleeping all day and drinking all night. Yep it is the Thai women who carry this country.
