old passport to new passport

Featured Replies

Is it possible to continue extension of stay from old passport to new passport ?

Yes, you can continue to get extensions if you get a new passport.

But once you have a new passport you need to visit immigration to have the details transferred from the old to the new passport. You will need a letter from your embassy regarding your new passport and copies of departure card and both old and new passport.

Note that extension are never given past the expiry date of the passport. In that case with a new passport you must apply for a new extension of stay, with all required paperwork.

Yes. Go to immigrations with both passports and photocopies from both and a letter from your embassy.

http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/files/file/20-transfer-stamp-to-a-new-passport-form/

They will put stamps in your new passport detailing the information of the visa you used to enter the country, your entry details, your current extension of stay and, if you have one, your re-entry permit.

Then, when you need to renew your extension you can just use the new passport and photocopies of those stamps. Don't forget to keep your departure card and the last 90 day report slip, both of which were probably stapled in your old passport.

More details re the "and a letter form your embassy" bit please. Do I have to make a special visit to my (British) Embassy to get such a letter and does it cost?

I asked SIsaket immigration about the procedure for transferring stamps at my last 90 day report visit in anticipation of having to renew my UK passport. They said just bring old and new passport in - no mention of an embassy letter. I'm not gonna rely on that now though without further checking.

The letter can be applied for by email, if you provide them with all necesarry details. They will than send it to you by mail. There was a recent reprot about this.

Just got my letter and officer said must go to Chaeng Wattana Bkk. Can I do it in Khon Kaen?

You have to do it at Khon Kaen immigration if you are on an extension of stay issued there.

I guess the consular officer thinks everybody lives in Bangkok.

Thank you sir.Saves me a long taxi ride for nothing! Are you sure? Would be a longer trip back to Bkk.

I told her I live in Khon Kaen and got my extension of stay there but she said they are not immigration and are told to tell all to go to Chaeng Wattana.

Yes I am sure. I had my stamps transferred here at my local immigration office.

Perhaps the lady was not aware there are many immigration offices in Thailand.

Hi, I shall be planning to get the passport renewal from British Embassy at BKK in late June 2015. My current stay is the first 1-year extension.

What a letter is called? How do I explain it to them?

Appreciate response in advance.

On how to apply for a new British passport, follow the links on the embassy webpage. It is no longer done at the embassy, except in special cases.

The letter doesn't have an official name, but you can call it a letter regarding new passport. The embassy will understand what you need once you have your new passport.

Sorry, I am not making clear myself earlier. What I mean is to submit the application at Trendy office in person. That will be in late June.

I am not sure if they have their standard procedure to provide that letter. Do you know anyone who got it from there recently?

Always valued your comment in this forum.

Apply to the Embassy for the letter once you have the new passport.

Trendy gave me the letter so must give everyone. I filled it in wrongly and the Embassy gave me another.

there was a name for it - pro ... something.

Really !

Why did you go to the Embassy ?

To get the embassy stamp.

Thanks for confirming the "letter" cannot be obtained from Trendy, even if they do provide blank forms which then have to be taken to the Embassy !

nzexpat & SawanChan7 (also Mario2008), thank you for your comments which I find very useful & helpful. My safest suggestion is to send the email to the embassy for advice now so I have nothing to lose in advance. thumbsup.gif

My embassy doesn't submit this letter.

Instead, they print a statement in the new passport in 3 languages that the new passport replaces the old passport with a certain number.

This is accepted by Immigration although it needs some explanation/convincing.

But, as has already been pointed out, one without the all-important Embassy stamp!

Why the Embassy cannot simply pass their wretched stamp on to the With-It Tower mob instead of forcing us to go to them in person clutching our stampless With-It Tower-issued letters beats me - the more so since we'll soon only be permitted access to the Embassy's inner sanctum if we've made an email appointment beforehand according to the thread at http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/807225-uk-embassy-introduce-online-appointment-service-for-consular-services/
