Economy Golf

Featured Replies

as the Santaburi is so ridiculously expensive, what are the options.

any golfers like the idea of a weekly meet at a driving range for beers and hits?

form our own club (samui whackers?) and pressure Santiburi for deep discounts?

I am an OK player ( 4 handicap) and would also happily help beginners with the basics and have a bit of fun.

Tiger won again this morning on the 4th playoff hole, Cink did well but sank.

any thoughts welcome, starting to get the fever after no golf for 5 months!

Good idea to form "own" club, however, forget about pressuring Santiburi as it won't work.

There is another course being discussed/build between Chaweng and Lamai which will be much cheaper as well.......

I heard there was a hotel somewhere that had three holes!

Yes, Fair House hotel, on the way from Chaweng to Lamai, left side. Only good for practicing your short game! 200 baht for 3 holes, but you can play several balls per hole. Good greens.

The other golf course is not sure – Bangkok Post 21 July

'.... Mr Sunthorn said the panel would extend its investigation to look into the issuing of title deeds for ''several hundred rai of land'' on Lamai mountain that had been earmarked for development as a nine-hole golf course. The panel's coordinating centre had been flooded with complaints that several forest and public land areas on the island had been encroached upon, he added.

Some go for a weekend to Suratthani and play the military golf course.

Driving ranges on the island, one in Lamai and Bandon hospital (near Tesco)

Best option - go to Suratthani for a day, nice early start, 18 holes then get the ferry back.

if you want to go for a weekend playing golf then pattaya has plenty of courses and someone told me that if you join the Pattaya Sport Club - http://www.pattayasports.org/ then you can get big discounts.

thanks all for replies.

anyone interested in a tentative meet/hit/beer at Lamai driving range (or other if it suits better) say on friday or saturday evening, maybe 5 or 6pm.

Another golf course is being planned,at Bophut where Frisbee golf used to be,9 holes par 3.

The other one you are talking about on the mountain, spoke to one of the owners last week & it still going ahead, 9 holes for now ,with a further 9 later.

As for joining for a hit,I'd love too,but too embarassed never played before.

Is this open to KP 'golfers'? I've not come across many but if there are any out there a mini tournament in Surat/anywhere sounds like a blast.

I played regularly in South Africa (early 90's) with a crowd called DRG (Dedicated Roving Golfers), we met at different courses every month and had a round of 18 holes followed by prize giving and general merriment... Any profits made at year end were donated to charities or good causes (Animal Welfare perhaps - pay for more dogs to be 'fixed' :o. I spent two years on the 'comittee' as official scorer. My lowest handicap was an unimpressive 16, but I worked hard to get there!

Sorry for rambling but thought it might be interesting.

So - what about a LOS DRG?
