Phuket:- Phuket tourist police have arrested an American woman who is wanted in the United States on charge of man slaughter.

Deputy Tourist Police Division chief Pol Col Supaset Chokchai told a press conference at the Phuket Tourist Police head office at 5 pm Wednesday that Kelly Lynn Miller, 36, was arrested in Krabi on Tuesday.

Supaset said police found out that Miller had been living in Thailand for six years without visa because she was on the run after she was charged with having fatally hit an American with her vehicle.

Supaset said Phuket tourist police have been alerted by the US embassy that Miller has been living in the kingdom without proper travelling document and visa.

The Phuket tourist police later found out that Miller was living on Koh Lanta in Krabi. The Phuket rushed to the island and found her at the car park of a bungalow.

Police asked her to show her travelling document but she had none so she was arrested and taken to the Phuket Tourist Police head office.

Miller admitted that she arrived at Bangkok on a flight in January 2009. She then visited Koh Phagnan in Surat Thani and Koh Lanta in Krabi without seeking to extend her visa, which expired six years ago.

She said she had no passport because her passport had been cancelled by the US government after she jumped bail in the man slaughter case.

She said she had been hiding in Surat Thani and Krabi for fear that she would be caught having no travelling document and would be deported.

Did she steal the guy she murdered's money as well? Not a bad run of 6 years living on thai beaches and eluding justice. She better have some nice pictures of beach side sunsets with cocktails to pin up on her prison cell.

criminals... convicts... yada yada yakety-yak... after having thoroughly examined all the facts the right(eous) honourable TV jury renders its verdict. you people are disgusting bah.gif

The facts are she is wanted in the USA on a charge of manslaughter. If she was innocent why was she hiding out in SEA on a 6 year overstay? Sounds like she has had a pretty good life on the beach while the family of the victim wait 6 plus years for justice.

took the yanks long enough to find her didnt it...

Kelly Miller makes herself presentable for last night's press conference.

PHUKET: -- An American woman wanted in the US for fleeing the country after being bailed on a charge of vehicular homicide in the US in 2004 was arrested yesterday (March 11) in Krabi.

She had been in Thailand for six years, most of the time illegally, and had given birth to a child while here.

Police said Kelly Lynn Miller, 36, from Alabama, arrived in Thailand in January 2009. They said she threw away her passport right after arriving “because she was afraid that police would find out about her case back in the US”.

The Alabama news website AL.com reported, “Miller, then 26, was charged with drunken driving in the death of a tractor-trailer driver on Interstate 459 in Hoover in 2004.

“Florida truck driver Donald Goodwin, 57, had parked his truck in the right emergency lane near Parkwood Road bridge and was checking his tires when he was struck and killed.

“Hoover and Bessemer police responded to the scene, which happened about 12:15am that Tuesday. Police believe Miller sideswiped the truck with her car and then hit Goodwin. She paid a $1,000 [b30,000] bond and was released later that day.”

Pol Col Suppaseth Chokchai, Deputy Commissioner of the Thai Tourist Police, said yesterday, “She flew to Thailand legally after she was granted bail in her car smash case.

“A few months after she disappeared, the US canceled her passport but she had already thrown it away, and had been moving around Thailand a lot,” said.

“We will tighten cooperation between Thailand and other countries to ensure improved data sharing on tourists there who are wanted by their governments.”

When arrested by a special regional police task force, Ms Miller was living with her husband and their small child – born in Thailand – in a bungalow on Koh Lanta.

She was charged with being in Thailand illegally and was taken to the cells at Phuket Immigration in preparation for her deportation to the US.

Yes what did she do for money ? Someone had to be helping her, there is another criminal out there.

My thinking also.

Easy to get on a plane but there must be a money trail. Nobody can live that long without money.

Since she was living with her husband, perhaps he was helping her out financially just a little?

They both need to be in jail.

"she was charged with having fatally hit an American with her vehicle." we could easily understand why she has moved to Thailand. Not this kind of risk here.

She could be working clandestinely here. There are many out there working with no proper papers. Her husband from where? May I know? Did her husband join her here from the US? Or she got married here? I know I am not minding my business here. Fortunately she is not a Thai.

No school on koh Lanta is paying 50k and yes schools in Thailand do check passports. They may overlook someone not having a degree but not a 6 year overstay.
