Hi, one of my friends is looking to apply for a non Immigrant O on the basis of marriage. However, he has a few questions which I volunteered to post for him.

1) In regards to the 400,000 Baht requirement to be in the bank account, does this need to be in his bank account, or can it be in his spouse's bank account?

2) The 400,000 Baht requirement is only for extending the Non Immigrant O VISA after the single 90 day VISA is due?

3) Can the 400,000 Baht be in a currency different than Thai Baht (for example, USD)?

Thank you in advance for your advice!

A single entry non-o based upon marriage can be obtained at any nearby embassy or consulate with not financial proof.

It is possible to convert a visa exempt or tourist visa entry to a 90 day non immigrant visa entry based upon qualifying for a extension of stay based upon marriage at immigration in Bangkok. Financial proof is need to do this.

1. The bank account must be in his name only.

2. The 400k baht must be in the bank for 2 months to apply for an extension of stay based upon marriage during the last 30 days of the 90 day entry from a non-o visa.

3. Some immigration offices will accept foreign currency accounts when applying for an extension of stay.

It has also been noted that by using a foreign currency account that some immigration offices will want to see an active funded baht account such as Kap Choeng Immigration and a few others.
