Just wonderd if there was a much of a modified car scene outside of the usual BKK, Phuket etc... I mean proper modified stuff, not just wheels and a bodykit.

On a similar note, any Supermoto action?

2 loves of mine that I would love to follow up when in Thailand

There are alot of contacts for car club's and performace shop's on facebook

A lot of standard car's with sh!t bodykits but also lots of boring cars are made faster and more exciting by engine and drivetrain swaps from halfcut's imported from japan, singapore etc of higer spec performance versions of the model that were not marketed in Thailand and could not be imported as a whole car because of import tax and import restrictions.

This seems to me to be the main way to get a performance car on a buget in Thailand.

More on RWD car's they also swap Toyota straight 6 turbo's and V8's into RWD chassis like older BMW's and pickups to create very powerful modified cars often 400bhp+

search '1JZ / 2JZ turbo swap thailand' on google images to see the sort of stuff they do here.

There is also a turbo diesel tuning scene on pickups that starts from a piggyback box on the ecu to increase boost but goes up to highy modified turbo diesel's that have been completely reworked with new turbo's, intercoolers and ECU's to create real mosters with the black smoke to match.

hope that helps, I am sure other BM's will input more as I am only just getting intrested in this in thailand myself.

cheers

on a side note, please remember to write all this down on the car registration. in the event of an accident a modified car is at fault regardless wai2.gif

I agree engine swaps must be recorded in the blue book and the insurance company informed but I disagree with your last statment, sounds same style as 'farang is always at fault regardless' myth. Of course a nice first modification can be a dash cam to prove blame.

There are many BM's on here with modified car's including a really cool Mark 1 escort with a nissan turbo engine, I hope someone can reply with real world experance.

cheers

nope, not farang, anyone with a modded car and has not reported it on the book is using a car that is different from the one in the registration.

for example, if an LPG system is added, the registration must be updated.

"..in the event of an accident a modified car is at fault regardless"

Nonsense.

The answer to your question is yes, there is a huge market for modified cars. Best thing to do to start is to buy a few of the local modified car magazines that you'll see in most bookshops, Tesco, Villa, Foodland etc. They'll point you in the right direction. There's also some very serious drag racing events.

A couple of Thai friends of mine run a shop called SY Unique Performance, Google them or search YouTube, there's some interesting stuff there.

please follow the news. starting now with bikes. any mods = forced to new revision after taking off mods = bike not legal to ride.

next up cars/trucks.

collision with illegal car = illegal car at fault regardless (should not be on the road at all)

clear?

Just another myth, don't anyone take any notice.

What is clear is that your original assertion is still incorrect. Clear?
