Sir James Saville MBE.

The greatest living English man ?

I was going to suggest a number of dead people, some women and a few ozzies, but I see I am too late.

Well in all seriousness I am nominating one special person now deceased sad to say but the memory lives on

He got wounded at El Alamain when the tank he was in was brewed up, he rescued his N.C.O from the tank as well as himself,he got an M.C. for his act and retired as a Major after W,W,2,

Wouldn't have a war film on the T.V. On came the film off went the T.V.

Worked bally hard for servicemen's charities and getting benefits for the victims of the war via his unpaid post in the R.B.L.for some 30 years

Never wore his medals and never talked about the war.

When he passed away his medals went to his cremation. When clearing up my mothers affairs some years later I found many documents and newspaper cuttings concerning his act. Only then did I begin to understand what he and many others like had been through and why at times he was a bit tetchy. The wounds both physical and mentally had left scars some visible some not and pain came and went.

That man was my father, truth be known there were indeed many fathers like him and let us be fair my mother too, mothers had their battles on the home front.

So I will nominate two great people,

My father and my mother and to be fair many of us perhaps have forgotten or possibly never knew just what our parents endured from 1939 to 1945 in the U.K. and elsewhere too.

And for the modern English society this fellowattachicon.gifimage.jpg

Good one CC. Maybe this one is a tad more wholesome?

As English as vegemite.
